Tools and Hardware Reviews of Technology Alternatives 7021 Cell Sensor EMF Detection MeterCustomer Review: Works good Summary: 4 Stars
Unit works good, but the long wire gets in the way sometimes. Don't know if this unit is accurate or not but so far so good.
Customer Review: Good for EMF, not so good for radio/cell phone detection Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this device to detect the radiation at my home, but despite it being named "cell sensor", I was unable to detect the cell phone signal from my iPhone 3G. I followed the direction, did the 90 degrees and 8 inch apart as described in the manual, put the probe next to the sensor, put it on the sensitive setting, and... detected nothing. Then during a call, I tried moving the cell phone in all angle combinations... nothing. I thought I had a defective unit, so I requested a replacement, got another brand new unit, and did the exact same thing. Nothing... the needle stays around 0. Same goes with wireless mouse and baby monitors. How do you make a "cell sensor" that doesn't sense a cell phone is beyond me.
On the other hand, this device works well detecting EMF from appliances such as refrigerator, microwave, lights, etc. Not sure it has really helped me avoid EMF energy other than confirm there's EMF emitting from electronic devices, and to stay 6 feet away from the microwave, but otherwise the level is so low typically that there's really not much that needed to be addressed.
If you plan to get this to detect EMF, it seems to work well, although I have nothing to compare it against. On the other hand, if you want to get one to detect wireless radiation, forget it.
Customer Review: Fun, but seems like a novelty item Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this EMF detector because I was going on a night tour of the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose. I don't know if I honestly expected to catch anything, but my wife and I thought it would be fun.
I got a lot of false positives when I would bump into a person, something probably having to do with the probe's connection getting jostled in the hole. I did like how it would light up when there was an EM spike, though I don't remember if I could turn that off. The biggest EM source that I found at the Winchester Mystery House was walking out of the house and into the gift shop...there was a huge electrical box next to the door!
I did see this same item used in a TV scary movie, so that was kind of cool to see. All in all, it was nice to use, but I wish that the probe was integrated INTO the device. You can't use the device without the probe.
Customer Review: Range Issues - Off-Scale or In the Noise Summary: 3 Stars
Just received "Cell Sensor"; purchased because we live adjacent to power lines (~100 yards away) and wanted to measure EMF in home. As suspected, levels are high all through the house - greater than 5m-Gauss in many spots & this is during a quiet time with no real load on system (temps about 75F). My concern with meter is with switching from High to Normal range - offscale readings in H scale don't reflect the same value on N scale. Example: A buried 5+ reading on H scale, reads about 2 on N scale? Not comfortable with reading meters that are off-scale or down in the low-end muck. But glad to have a rough feel for our exposure at home...not thrilled about it!
Customer Review: It works Summary: 3 Stars
It is very light very much plastic and cheap feeling. I am glad I got it because it has worked. But I am thinking for continuing on going use I may spend more money and get a higher quality machine for my ghost hunting.
