Tools and Hardware Reviews of Steam Fast SF-680 Digital Fabric Steam Press

Customer Review: Great Choice
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a replacement for a 34 inch Kaloric that I ordered a month ago. The Kaloric's opening was so small (only about 6 inches in the front and 2 inches in the back when fully opened) that I burned my hands several times and I am very experienced at using a presser.

I have used a steamer for several years until it died recently. I highly recommend them and use mine everyday. This model is great. The pressing area is a little larger than my old model at 25x10 and is really the perfect size for ironing shirts and pants. Although the 34 inch was good for the inseam, it was really too large for almost everything else. Once you have a system down, you can press everything very quickly. I pressed a fitted queen size sheet in about four minutes and the top sheet just as quickly. The trick is to fold it carefully and press them in sections. Another nice thing is that this model presses several layers at one time so you can put a knit tee shirt on the unit and get the back and frontin one press.

I have only had it about a week - so I don't know how long it will last - but it seems to be of good quality. My old presser last almost 3 years - I hope this one does as well.

The shipping was very quick - it arrived in about 3 days and Amazon was great about taking back the 34 inch Kaloric without hesitation. I am very pleased.

Customer Review: Very Good Value; Works Well
Summary: 5 Stars

The SF-680 was my first experience with a steam press and the product functions as specified and seems to be a very good value. I previously wore wrinkled dress shirts because I just did not have the time to iron. This steam press takes me about 1/4 of the time to iron my shirts. I followed the pressing instructions found on Singer's UK site (just do a search for "how to steam press a shirt") and the press works wonderfully. Regarding some of the negative comments pertaining to the press not opening far enough and opening with such force as to destabilize the thing, those don't seem reasonable unless you're used to a commercial dry cleaner's press. Yes, there isn't enough room to iron on the steam press in between presses, but you can just shift your clothing over to the ironing board to do that if you wish. Otherwise there is plenty of room to position the clothing on the pressing surface without burning yourself if you're reasonably careful. I have the unit attached to the stand that is sold separately, and it doesn't have a problem with stability for me. The steam feature seems to work fine with the occasional droplets of water on the clothes that disappear after pressing. I can't think of any cons to this press unless you're comparing it to a commercial press, which it is not.

Customer Review: Perfect Christmas Gift For Mom!
Summary: 5 Stars

My Mom is only 55 but she loves everything pressed with a crips finish just like my grandmother did while she was growing up. She irons her bed linens & all of her clothes except the ones she has dry cleaned. She loves the steam press. She was able to press her things in an hour which normally would have taken her a day or two to complete.
It was easy to setup but be sure to read all of the instructions before you use it. Some reviewers stated the opening wasn't wide enough but I feel it is wide enough just don't rush & be careful.
As for those who find ironing a crease is difficult, it is the same as on a regular ironing board. Line the outside seams up perfectly from to to bottom. Press the bottom 1st then keep them lined up & press the top. You do need a regular handheld iron for some areas of shirts and around the pants pockets.
I did shop around before I ordered this one and this one had the best reviews and the best price. I ordered the stand also & it is perfect & stable. I think it should be taller but it works just fine.
The two Items were a bit expensive but worth it for some who irons frequently or for a family.

Customer Review: love it! love it! love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

Absolutely love my steam press.
I hated doing laundry just because of the ironing, now I am doing a load a day without having to worry about stacks of ironing piling up.

I was spending up to $75 a month on having my husband's shirts laundered and starched at the dry cleaners, now that doing them at home is a breeze I will have the steam press paid off in about 4 months with the money I am saving.

It does take up space but for the convenience it was easy to make space for it. I was worried about getting my hands stuck under a hot plate accidentally but my fears were gone when I saw how well constructed the lid hinge was. This does have a drawback that if you let go of the lid the spring will open the lid and the force of it will jerk back the unit. I use my unit on a table against a wall so this does not cause any problem to me but I am not sure how well it would do on a stand. This small problem is easily over come by not letting go of the handle, but lifting it up slowly instead.

Customer Review: Time Saver, Money Saver -- and you look Great too!
Summary: 5 Stars

I originally bought a couple of these for my company (children's formalwear rental) to spiff up clothes before sending them out. They worked so well, I ended up getting one for myself to use at home.

This product is fantastic, and it has almost completely replaced the need to ever get out the iron and ironing board. Dress shirts can be pressed extremely quickly -- I can do a dress shirt (front left, front right, left arm, right arm, back) in under 30 seconds). Slacks are even faster.

I generally don't need steam, except on linen items, but it's always available with the buttons located on either side of the handle (nice, since you don't have to use a particular hand to open and close the presser top). Also ameliorating the need for steam is that I've learned to take things out of the dryer still just slightly damp, press them, and then let them hang dry. Doing it that way has all but eliminated the need to send stuff to the dry cleaners, saving me a TON of money while giving me the same crisp look.
