Tools and Hardware Reviews of Tricam GOR201B-T1 Gorilla Carts 600-Pounds Capacity Dumping Cart, Black

Customer Review: Gorilla Cart
Summary: 4 Stars

After doing a bit of research on the net, I found that a weakness of this cart was the small diameter washers used to hold the "tub" onto the frame. As expected, when the cart arrived, I received washers that were really too small for the plastic tub. I replaced these with 3/8" stainless steel washers during assembly.

We have had this cart for only a short period, but it assembled easily with decent illustrated instructions, and all of the hardware was blister packed and marked with a reference to the illustration in the instructions (as well as the instruction step where the parts were mentioned.) The cart is sturdy, and the wheels were definitely sturdy enough for medium duty yard hauling. The dump mechanism with the wheels moving forward to allow the weight of the payload to shift is a very intelligent design. I also have pulled this behind my lawn tractor with ease. Overall, and for the price, this is definitely worth the money. Also, the narrow tub allows the owner to easily manuever through a standard garden gate of 3 feet with ease. This is a plus for us.
I caution, however, this is NOT a cart to be used to haul concrete pieces, bricks, or other such material- the tub, while fairly stout, is not going to take that sort of abuse. To use this cart for hauling proiduct around the yard, placing and spreading sand or moving plants, it is great.

Customer Review: Nice cart... but
Summary: 4 Stars

After reading the reviews which were pretty good (for the price) I picked this cart up at Home Depot. Some of the reviews said the hardware could be difficult to screw the screws into the self-LOCKING nuts. The screw heads don't have much of a slot and you need large screw drivers (both phillips head and straight blade)and a metric socket set. I was thinking "Yeah... right.. whatever... the whimps can't use tools... blah, blah, blah. Well... I have the right tools and decent mechanical ability but the reviews were RIGHT. All the screws with slots were VERY difficult to properly tighten in the self-LOCKING nuts. The self-locking nuts are VERY tight. I ended up putting the self-locking nuts in a vice and threading a bolt (in the kit two have have bolt heads not regular screw heads, but have the same thread size) into the nuts and back out a couple of times to pre-thread the self-LOCKING nuts. By doing this the slotted screws were "easier" to thread into the nuts. Do yourself a favor and "pre-thread" the self-locking nut.
Once together it is a nice cart.

Customer Review: good product, good value
Summary: 4 Stars

This cart is a better value than any found in local stores and I am pleased with how it's performed hauling about 1.5 tons of compost in its first week with me. I can't imagine it could handle 600 pounds though. It's weakest point is at the bend where the handle connects to the tongue of the cart. If there were more than 250 lbs or so in the cart it would be very easy to break the handle at that point.

That said, most of what I want to haul in the cart is well below 600 lbs and the cart performs very well. It is easy to pull across the lawn fully loaded with heavy compost and easy to dump when I arrive at my flower beds.

I imagine the plastic bed will be the shortest lived part for me and I'll be looking to build a cart bed on top of the wheel base some time in the future given that the wheel base looks like it could last for decades.

I gave it 4 stars because of the weak link at the handle/tongue though I don't think it'll be an issue for my gardening uses.

Customer Review: Good cart for the money. Also available at Lowe's preassembled.
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this at the local Lowe's building supply store, and bought one that was preassembled rather than one that was in the box. (If you do this, you might want to check that all the bolts are tight.) It is sold under the name "Duraworx" Dumping Garden Cart, rather than "Gorilla Carts," but is manufactured by the same company, Tricam, and is essentially the same cart.

I used the cart for planting several very large Arbor Vitae. It will hold 200-300 lbs. of soil without problems, but more than that is probably not advisable or manageable.

My garage is also my woodworking shop and is crammed with equipment & tools, not to mention the car. So I like the fact that this cart is fairly compact, especially if you take the handle off, as I do, and hang the cart up on the garage wall. It is more stable than a wheelbarrow & uses less space when stored than a wheel barrow or 2-wheeled garden cart.

I think it is good value for the money.

Customer Review: Great small cart for small jobs
Summary: 4 Stars

Purchased as a gift for my father, whose 60 year old wheelbarrow finally gave out. Turned out to be smaller than I envisioned even after reading the dimensions. While it's not a good replacement for the wheelbarrow, he loves it. Could be because his wife gets the most use out of it!

It's lightweight but sturdy, rolls easily and turns around in a small space. The deep bucket is great for toting dirt/potting soil, kindling, small stacks of firewood, 'heavy' grocery items like ice, charcoal, pet food, etc - all kinds of small to medium haul-around-the-yard things. It's what you should expect for the reasonable price.

If you need to move/dump anything heavy or sizeable, this cart probably isn't for you. We haven't come close to testing the advertised 600-lb capacity - and I'm not sure I'd want to try - but it's a great light-duty utility cart and something you should find lots of uses for.
