I ordered SIX of these cookbook holders and gave 5 to other family members as gifts.
Reasons I enthusiastically recommend this product:
These holders are relatively inexpensive.
They are stable enough to hold a heavy book.
They protect a cookbook from random splatters--something I needed for my favorite new bride's cookbook, which now looks like it's been through the food wars!
This holder has other uses:
It holds a newspaper or floppy magazine so I can read while I eat.
It hold materials I need to view at the computer.
It holds notes or lists which need to be dealt with soon--they are clearly visible.
One suggestion: When sending this as a gift, enclose a note of explanation or the recipient will be puzzled. ("What is this thing?") It arrives shrink wrapped with no label.

I received this item as a wedding gift. As another poster noted, there was no labeling on it, which might be it's only fault. I LOVE this product. It's flexible enough so I can stick in a hard cover book, spiral, anything has worked so far. As I tend to make a huge mess when I cook, especially sauces, this keeps the whole book protected and for paperbacks, keeps it open so I'm not constantly losing my place because the book closes.
Other posters mentioned other things this is good for and I highly recommend too! It works great for papers you need to type on the computer.
I love that it's clear because it blends into our counter making it look less cluttered.

I was concerned buyihng this item on reading some of the reviews based on the binding stripping of cookbooks. However, I love this product and am going to order more of them. I found a solution for the binding stripping situation. I just put a piece of paper or a mini envelope on the binding of the book before I slide it into the holder. To pull it out, I just slightly open the part the clamps onto the book. It's easy, lightweight and does what it should.Customer Review: Great product

I ordered this product to replace the cookbook holder that I've had for years. The new one works wonderfully well. It completely protects the cookbook pages from splatters and wet hands.It is stable and allows a clear view of both pages of a two page recipe. I highly recommend this cookbook holder. I ordered this to hold my cook books up off the counter while I was cooking so I could see the recipe better and have more counter space. I really like this one, it protects the recipe from splatters, is easy to clean, and is sturdy. Sometimes I like to open on of my cupcake recipe books to a pretty page, put it in this holder and use it as decoration in my kitchen.
