We renovated our bathroom with chrome and white porcelian hardware, and then began looking for a lockset that would go with it. There aren't many choices, and we ordered the Gainsborough Whitehall lockset, sight unseen. Given the price, we wasn't sure what to expect.
However, this lockset turned out to be very nicely made indeed. The porcelian is very white, and has no blemishes or flaws. The chrome finish is highly polished. Sometimes chrome can look cheap, but this lockset has an elegance which you might expect in a much more expensive unit. No complaint about the quality whatsoever!!
Installation was straightforward and simple. I had my contractor do it!
Mechanically, it functions (after one month) just perfectly. The lock mechanism is a simple button (visisble on the top edge of the chrome in photos) on the inside. Just push down the button, and it's locked. Turning the inside knob either direction to open the door releases the button, unlocking the door. Of couse, there's a means to release the lock from outside in case of emergency.
We are very pleased with our choice - tip of the hat to the blokes down under who figured out how to produce a well-made, affordable lockset!
