I just bought this unit last night because of the reviews on this site. I was really hoping that I would be pleased for the price. So far, I really like that it's very quiet. I am returning a off brand unit that I got from Wal-Mart because it was just way too noisy and I don't think that it changed the humidity in our bedroom at all. I was still very stuffy in the morning after using it. The Venta unit was easy to set up and I too experienced the blinking light when setting it up. I turned off the unit and re-adjusted the unit in the base and it started to work. My only complaint at this time is the humidistat. I was really hoping for the price that this worked for me although I read several reviews that complained about it. I am going to give it 24 hours before calling customer support or returning it but the reading has been on 30% for about 12 hours. It has not changed once. This worries me enough to want to return it. Other than the humidistat, I like it but I don't think that I am willing to spend $100 and it doesn't work even a little bit.Customer Review: I like it so far

This is my first humidifier. I bought it over a year ago after reading reviews on several different models. This is the second winter I've used it and it has worked well for me. It puts out plenty of vapor for my large bedroom, but I do have it about 3 feet from me for maximum benefit. It goes through about 3/4 of a tank each night as I set it on maximum output and continuous mode. I found that if I set it to a certain humidity level, when it reached that level, it would turn on and off all the time which was pretty annoying. When running in continuous mode, it was very quiet with some gurgling of the water every so often. The tank is pretty easy to fill up by turning it over, unscrewing the filter and filling the tank. I still wonder why they couldn't put the fill mechanism on the top though. That would be an improvement. So far, the reliability has been great. We bought this unit about 3 weeks ago from Bed Bath & Beyond (it was cheaper and I had a 20% off coupon). There is absolutely no noise from the motor. The only noise you hear is the occasional "glub glub" of the water moving through the unit. If your heat is on, your room will dry out quickly and the unit will kick and usually stay on until the heat shuts off. I was running this unit at 50% humidity in our baby's room and I would go through the 2 gallon tank in about 18 hours in the winter. The tank is not especially easy to clean if you felt you need to give it a good scrub and it is a little cumbersome to fill but I am very happy with it and we bought another one yesterday. To address one of the reviews--I cannot understand why anyone would want their humidity set lower than 30%. My research indicates that the appropriate amount of humidity for a room should be 50-55%.Customer Review: Best so far...

This is the best humidifier we've had so far. We've been looking for one that isn't a fan and loud. This one is basically silent. I don't know about the accuracy of the humidity meter as others have commented, but it's easy to use and very quiet. It is awkward to fill and can get heavy. Would be nice if you can fill it from the top. Only other issue for us is that condensation builds on the ceiling of the water tank and therefore you can hear the water dripping back down. Not a problem if you're already asleep, but can be a little annoying if you're trying to fall asleep. Also, the white cap on top is loose so our cat likes to get on top of the machine and flip the thing about at all hours of the night. We had to tape it down. That's not a real reflection of the product - just that we have a weird cat I guess. Would highly recommend.Customer Review: Good, but with unexpected AC problem

Much has been said about this humidifier already. There is no need to repeat here. Bought 2 for about 1 month ago and ran into some unexpected issue with the AC system.
As other reviewers stated, this machine put out fine white dust due to the hard water. I don't mind the dust on my furniture, but just found out that the dust was so fine, it plugged up my AC filter. I have the expensive 3M filter that has ultra small holes. I changed my filter about the same time I bought the machine. One month later, the AC can't get enough intake air and shut-down. The filter look like new, except when you blow on it, some fine dust fall out. I have to switch to a cheaper filter (has larger holes). Hope this will work.
I'm still curious as if there is any health effect from inhaling such fine dust.
