Tools and Hardware Reviews of Vornado Compact 530 Air Circulator, 3 Speeds, Black, CR1-0073-06Customer Review: Nice Fan Summary: 5 Stars
Its a nice fan and it works pretty well. The strongest setting is pretty loud but that is expected. It's also a little pricey for a fan.
Customer Review: Vornado=Tornado!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this fan for my mom and she loves it! It's immensely powerful for such a small fan. Very good product.
Customer Review: Superb little fan Summary: 4 Stars
I own two other Vornados- a "mid-sized" model (6xx), and large (7xx). The small continues in the Vornado tradition of excellence, and I'm very pleased with it. It moves air like no other fan of it's size, and appears to be very well made. It's perfect for a small room.
Vornados are not particularly comfortable to have pointed directly at you due to the speed and concentration of the air stream... it's more like an air gun. You are supposed to point them across the room, and they project a beam of air to the opposite end, creating a mild breeze throughout the entire room.
However, this small fan does have a "low" speed setting that is tolerable for direct use, and is very quiet on low. The noise it makes is pleasant... it's worth noting that fan collectors prize each fan's distinctive sound above almost anything else, and Vornado's HQ is home to a museum of vintage fans. They clearly design their fans to create an attractive sound.
However, I will say that the high speed setting is somewhat loud, and a bit more intrusive than the sound of the larger models. The fan blades are spinning quite a bit faster in order to achieve such a massive air movement for such a small unit. However, I don't run mine on highvery often- it works best in a small room on medium or low. It's perfect for our young daughter's bedroom.
About price: in addition to the quality of the construction and design, it's worth mentioning that Vornado actually manufactures in the US... you can be sure these things aren't being built by children in a sweat shop. This certainly makes the more expensive, but I certainly feel better about buying them.

Customer Review: Good fan, but too expensive Summary: 4 Stars
I got this one from Amazon as a replacement for the same model I bought in a brick and mortar store. Why did I need a replacement? Because less than a month after I bought the first one I managed to knock it over and one of the fan blades snapped off at the base (I couldn't return it because I had stupidly thrown away both the receipt and the packaging). So you may ask, if the fan is that fragile why buy another? Because it is a very powerful, very quiet fan when it works and I can't find another of the same size with the same amount of power anywhere and as long as I don't knock it over, it should last a long time.
Until I bought this Vornado, my previous fans for the past five or so years have all been Honeywells. The model I like has been discontinued and I don't like the new model at all. Despite the Vornado being more than twice as expensive, I decided to switch brands because I would rather have a fan with a lot of power that costs more, than a fan that doesn't do what I want.
I do think the fan is about $15 too expensive. It is hard to spend close to $40 for a small fan, no matter how well it works, but especially for one that breaks so easily.
Customer Review: awesome power in a tiny little package Summary: 4 Stars
first off id like to say that i never ever thought of spending so much on a fan in my life. i usually go to the mom and pop places and buy em for about 5 bucks. After several people enthusiastically recommended this to me i was skeptical at 1st. Since many of my junk fans broke on me i thought it would be a good investment since this is a reputable company.
the fan is very powerful! I cant wait to test drive this thing in the summer. this might be a good alternative for people looking to keep cool in the summer without having to use the AC.
The only cons I can think of is that the outer casing is made of plastic, the older ones im told were metal.
update - one of the fan blades broke on me after a small drop. ive had this for about 8 months. im a bit skeptical now because the quality of the materials are low grade plastic and this is made in china...
