the tradeoffs are more than worth it. The fan is plenty powerful for what it's meant for. It doesn't blow dust or paperwork around the office. In addition, we bought extras to keep computer equipment cool. You read right. Desktop equipment (I'm a techie) wasn't getting enough circulation thanks to space limitations in our IT dept't office setup but these babies are doing the job so well we aren't having to put up with loud fans nor do we worry about accidentally hitting the blades since they are all around and space is at a premium. Aesthetically, they work as we are in an office that calls for a certain level of style. We're happy. (BTW, we aren't cooling servers or anything so don't get any silly ideas about replacing major cooling systems in server rooms... I'm talking about stacked external hard drives that ppl leave on all all night, overheating laptops, and anything else where extra air circulation helps the lifespan of the equipment in question...)Customer Review: Great little desk fan

I bought this in spite of a handful of negative reviews up here, and I'm posting to provide a counterpoint.
The Zippi is a great little desk fan that, while nearly silent, moves a surprising amount of air. I actually put it down on the low setting because too much air in my face gets annoying. The Zippi is perfect for those of us who work in climate-controlled offices that are a little too climate-controlled in favor of the ladies who need everything uncomfortably warm. It provides just the right amount of personal airflow. No more, no less.
Anyone buying this thinking it's going to cool more than their face and torso is sadly looking for something else. Like, maybe, something bigger and noisier.
Great for offices/apartments ... bad for cooling large rooms in the Cayman Islands in Summer with no air conditioner. It's made by Vornado and has excellent build quality. I'd buy another if I had two faces.

I bought this fan for the desk in my office, since the room temperature is higher than is comfortable for me. I leave it on the low setting and it cools the air around me by a few degrees. The fan is well-suited for an office environment, as it is small and quiet; even on the high setting the fan remains quieter than the typical ambient office white noise. It's also quite stylish; the design has a retro-inspired feel that reminds me of an old engine propeller. The cloth blades inspired many of my colleagues to stick their fingers in the fan while it's running. The air circulates strong enough that you feel the air move, but not to the point that papers are flying around.
Bottom line: If you need a compact and quiet desk fan that won't be intrusive or too powerful, the Zippi will be an excellent fit. It won't cool an entire room or anything, but it will provide cooler air around your personal space.

I ordered the Vornado FA-10007-06 Zippi desk fan in black and it just arrived. I saw mixed reviews on it, but it works great. When I first saw the fabric material fan levers, I wondered how they were going to cool me down in my huge office where the sun shines on me all afternoon. Having a window office is all good and well but not if you are going through menapause!! Anyway, it is quiet and even on the low setting, it keeps a cool breeze flowing on my face and upper torso which is all I really need to combat those tedious hot flashes. The price was right at $28 bucks and you can't beat it for a small personal fan. Anyone that has come in my office asks me where I got it so they can order one too. I haven't had it long so I don't know how durable it is, but for the price, I wouldn't mind buying another one in six months if necessary. I sleep with a fan blowing air in my face. I've been searching for fans quiet enough that my mate is not bothered by the sound of the motor or the air wooshing over the blades.
On low speed this fan has a respectable breeze across my face, no noticeable hum from the motor, and silent enough that you can scarcely hear it unless you are within a few feet of it.
On high speed there is a more noticable hum from the motor, and the noise from the blades is louder, but you gain a significant amount of airflow at this speed.
The blades have had obstructions in their path (my hand usually, reaching for the nightstand in the dark) many times without any damage or loss of balance to the motor. (it remains quiet after all of that abuse)
If you are looking for a silent fan, this is the best i've found so far.
