Tools and Hardware Reviews of Vornado Midsize 630 Air Circulator, 3 Speeds, CR1-0074-06Customer Review: Good for what it is; no "bells and whistles" Summary: 4 Stars
After doing some research on the Web, I decided to buy one of these Vornado fans. I found a Model 633 at Bed, Bath & Beyond, which appeared to be the same fan as the 630, and contacted Vornado to see if it was. They informed me that "the 633 has a new motor, new grill design, new blade design and a slightly different base design than the 630. The 633 also moves more air (389 CFM) than the 630 (331 CFM)." That's a 17.5% boost. I've had the fan for two days now, and so far I like it. It's pretty quiet on the lowest speed, and cranks out a real torrent of air on the high setting. It doesn't oscillate, but you can tilt it up and down manually. The only control is a single knob with four positions: Off, High, Medium and Low. I paid $48 plus tax at BB&B using a 20% off coupon, and for that price it seems like a good deal.
Customer Review: It works Summary: 4 Stars
Forgetting all the hyperbole around this fan, the fact is it works well. I can turn my A/C up by 3 degrees and still feel exactly the same. I can turn it up an additional 2-3 degrees and I am still comfortable. Without the fan if the A/C was turned up 6 degrees I would be pretty miserable. I move this fan between 2 rooms and sometimes I forget. When I do it doesn't take me long to notice I'm hot. This is at medium setting in a 20x15 room. You can hear the fan at medium, but it's a quieter than the A/C and cheaper. On high, the fan is pretty loud, you can really only do that for short periods of time if you need to move some air out (cooking, just get home, etc). Low is pretty quiet in my opinion. Hardly noticeable. Also, you don't point the fan at you at all, just make it blow up and into a corner.
Customer Review: NOT "Whisper Quiet" Summary: 4 Stars
This Vornado 603b 3 Speed is NOT "Whisper Quiet." It has a low frequency pitch that almost sounds like a truck or a tug boat is going by somewhere along with the higher pitch rush of air. This product is a focused directional VOLUME air mover ... on lowest speed it still moves a lot of air and is too loud for a hardwood floor bedroom. A carpeted room may have better success. It is a high quality product for what it is, and while it is quieter than some large fans, it would not replace my truly whisper quiet Lasko fan on low for the bedroom. I am disappointed that this product is not "silent" running, but I bought it to move air across a 35' diagonal living area. It does. On Low. :)
Customer Review: Vornado 630B Summary: 4 Stars
Works great. Not as quiet as the older model and larger Vornados we have had for over 8-9 years. Moves air really well.
It's no longer made in the US.
Our other fans are run almost continuously for the last few years and have never broken down. That's great durability. We'll see if the made in China fans last as long or hold up as well.
I wish they would return to the old model stand which you could tighten the knobs on the side to switch the angles. The single arm bent tube style sucks at keeping a good angle.
This small model has no option to change angles but that's fine since it's for a small room.
Customer Review: It works as promised. Summary: 4 Stars
The Vornado does move the air throughout a room, allowing us to keep our air conditioning set at 80 degrees and still remain comfortable. There are two cons that resulted in a 4-star review from me instead of a 5-star.
1. It is not "whisper quiet."
2. The switch to turn it off or set the speed is not conveniently located.
Otherwise, this product works as promised. If you are interested in saving money on air conditioning, this is the way to do it. I look forward to seeing if it works as well moving warm air around the room in the winter.
