Tools and Hardware Reviews of Jet 754031/SBR-30N Combination Shear Brake and RollCustomer Review: Unsatisfactory Summary: 2 Stars
This Chinese made machine is sold under several different brand names at different prices, and like most multi-purpose machines, it is not very good at any of its intended functions.
The lower brake die was poorly finished and had to be remachined to prevent tearing the surface of the workpiece; the alignment of the dies is hard to control and needed an additional stiffener for the upper set, plus constant attention in use; the sintered iron shaft bearings broke up and had to be replaced with solid versions. The shear is not stiff enough, even with its adjuster, for light gauge aluminium alloys, and cannot make a full width cut; the back stop is too crude to be used for accurate cutting.
There are safety issues. The attachment of the handle to its shaft loosens easily in use, and the handle can fall without much warning - it's heavy - so it must be checked and tightened frequently. The rolls have no keeps to prevent them falling while being cleaned and adjusted, and they are very heavy too.
With time, effort and expense it can be made into a usable light duty machine. I learned from the experience that it's better to spend the money on better quality equipment!
