The WORX GT is one nifty edge trimmer/edger. First of all, it's very light weight (anyone can handle it). I've shown it, actually demo'd it for several of my relatives and they WANTED to try it out. Very tiny women said, "Even I can do this!"
Let's face it, we're used to having the choice between a heavy electric motor dragging a very long extension cord or, a very heavy gas engine trimmer. The latter is frequently hard to start - especially since after sitting all winter the gasoline oxidizes in the carburetor ports and has to be reworked before it can be used. That's both costly and very inconvenient.
Now, I'm used to using heavy equipment...but that doesn't mean I wouldn't prefer to use something light weight - IF it does the job! If you're doing regular to light trimming and edging this little guy does the job just fine. Now, I'll grant you if you need to cut through some really tough two foot high weeds, this isn't the ticket. But if you simply want to do regular edge trimming and edging, it does a very nice job. Best of all, your arms aren't worn out when your done.
I think the key to this whole thing is the use of a light weight cutting cord that is made with sharp edges. It cuts much better than those round cords on the heavy machines so it take a lot less power to do the same job. The trimming I need to do takes about 45' to an hour and this machine did it all on one charge. and yes, the battery does recharge in less than an hour. I didn't actually time it but when I came back in an hour it was fully charged.
I've used it several times now, and I continued to be impressed with it's performance AND the fact that my arms aren't worn out when I'm done. It is very easy to change over from edge trimmer to edger and I was surprised at the way it will cut a furrow in the dirt to make a very nicely edged lawn. Everything is adjustable - even the depth of cut by the angle when you use it as an edger.
The spools of cutting cord are very easy to change - no engineering degree required.
There are three caveats: One, I have not been able to find a source for a second battery. 'Course I haven't really needed one but I always like to have a spare.
Second, it seems to go through cutting cord pretty fast but I'm still on the first spool (it comes with three) and I already ordered the 1st pack of six replacement spools for the cost of shipping. You get a lifetime supply of cutting cord with the unit for just the shipping charge - Wow. I think that comes to around a dollar a spool and I'm still on my first spool after 6 hours of use.
Third caveat MAKE SURE that you order the model with the 30 minute charge lithium battery. It's more expensive but obviously well worth the cost.
