Customer Review: Perfect For A 42" Plasma TV In Almost Every Way !!!

I looked at lots and lots of TV stands for my new 42" Panasonic plasma HDTV Panasonic VIERA TC-P42G25 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV and this one had the quality, versatility and modern look that I was searching for. I love it! It can be mounted or not. It tilts. It swivels. It's nearly perfect. I got the combo deal with the Panasonic SC-HTB500 2.1-Channel SoundBar Speaker System with Wireless Kelton Subwoofer (Black) which has caused considerable problems for some people because the soundbar blocks the TV sensor when it is put right in front of the TV on a flat top TV stand. This TV stand solved this problem for me. I mounted the TV on the included attached mount.
I don't have a lot of space for a TV stand because the room I'm using it in is rather small, so I wanted something with a relatively small footprint, not much larger than the TV itself. It's perfect in this regard as the width of the stand is almost exactly as wide as my TV. It works good against a flat wall and is also ideal for a corner unit because of the way the sides angle back.
The stand is well packaged with lots of styrofoam and even some thin wood slats for protection. The instructions looked complicated at first, but everything is labeled by number or letter; screws washers, tools, wood pieces, metal support bars, mounting pieces, etc. The instruction manual shows pictures of what every part and hardware piece looks like, how many you should have and where it goes. There was even some extra hardware included just in case you lose a screw/washer which is always nice. The tempered glass shelves are black tinted, quite heavy, and are packed in a separate box insulated with styrofoam. There are 2 extra packs of hardware for mounting the TV on the wall.
Only 4 pieces of the stand are actual wood, the 2 front legs and the fronts of the top and bottom shelf; the rest is black metal. The color of the wood is a slightly orangey cherry wood. Take a bit of care with the wood parts during construction so you don't chip them as they are very visible from the front when the unit is complete.

Solves the problem of the Panasonic SC-HTB500 2.1-Channel SoundBar Speaker System with Wireless Kelton Subwoofer (Black) blocking the TV sensor if you mount on unit or on wall.
Cons:
There was a small chip in the wood on mine, but it was in the back so it isn't visible
(Note: a color marker is included for touch-ups to the wood if you should nick or scratch it).
Swivel feature is nice, but when choosing a place for it be aware that the swivel angle is mostly to the the right and not much to the left.
Would have preferred that the wood had a bit of a less orangey tint to it.
The shelves are black glass which seems like it will attract dust quickly.
The shelves are not spaced very wide apart (measure if you have big components).
The shelves are wider at the front and narrower at the back; may limit placing larger components side-by-side.
The middle glass shelf does not have much support; take care in placing heavy components on it.
The cable management system runs straight down the back, so if you have a very deep component on the middle or lower shelf right in the middle; it could make it harder to run other wiring back through the opening; requires some planning.
These CON's do not in any real way detract from what I think is a great TV stand. The shelves have not caused any problems for me. I have a DIRECTV DVR box, a Playstation with 2 remotes, DVD player and a Wii system on the shelves and they all fit nicely without stacking. And I would still have room for one more component. My 42" soundbar sits on the top shelf below the TV with plenty of room in front of it and behind it for remotes or a basket for game controllers. But be aware that the shelf space is limited. If you have room for a 60" and have more or larger components; that may be the way to go.

Someone gave this a one star review saying it wouldn't work for a 42" Plasma TV, I don't know why?
My Response:
"Just mounted my Panasonic Viera G25 42 inch Plasma tonight. No problems whatsoever. There's all kinds of screws and 2 sizes of washers to choose from. The 2 brackets give plenty of placement choices. Took me 10 minutes to mount the 2 brackets(2 screws on each bracket) to the back of the TV by myself. Took 2 minutes to hang it on the stand's horizontal bracket(need a 2nd pair of hands for that) and adjust the tilt angle. Looks great! I'm very, very pleased with it. I'm not sure what the one star reviewer above was talking about. It was soooo easy. I didn't need a contractor or a contractor's license, just a plain old phillips head screwdriver."
