Tools and Hardware Reviews of Waterpik CF-201 Cascadia Dual Mode 8-Inch Showerhead, White

Customer Review: Nice Spray - Pointing At the Floor
Summary: 3 Stars

We actually really enjoyed our Cascadia, for the short while that we used it. The misting spray was very relaxing for my boyfriend, who enjoys misty showers. The stronger shower option was OK for me - I tend to like my showers strong.

The problem here wasn't really the spray itself, but the inane, short grey flexible neck they have the massive head mounted on. It wouldn't hold the shower head up! The shower head would flop over and point down. We tried a number of things. You would literally have to bungie-cord the shower head up to some sort of hook on your shower wall or ceiling in order to get it to stay somewhere.

The whole point of having a flexible head (for us) is that we want the shower head to be at a different height when the two of us take a shower, since he is taller and I am shorter. If we have a flexible neck that we have to jury-rig into a fixed position to get it to work - it's just not worth it. We moved on to another unit which had a flexible neck that was both flexible and also able to hold position when you had chosen one.

Nice idea - but poor implementation.

Customer Review: Nice Showerhead, but.......
Summary: 3 Stars

We didn't want to spend a fortune on a new showerhead and have previously owned a waterpik head that we were very pleased with as it was very easy to bend the neck to clean the shower or adjust the height to the user. The Cascadia, we thought, would do the same. We bought it because the shower head was so much larger and looked like it would give a better spray area. In reality, although the spray area is great and feels wonderful, we had to put an extesion on the shower post that comes out of the wall so that the Cascadia would come out far enough from the wall to have it aim straight down. The head itself is too heavy for the flexible neck. Without an extension, you have to flex the neck up about 6" higher than the shower outlet and then you can't reach the flow adjustment. The flexible neck is also so stiff that it is not worth the effort to move it once you get it in the position you want. So overall, it was a somewhat dissapointing purchase and feel that if waterpik made some improvements, this would be a really great product.

Customer Review: Nice Rain Won't Last
Summary: 3 Stars

I owned this for about a year and a half before the plastic mount cracked at the base and would no longer support the shower head. Here's a summary of my thoughts after ownership:

Pros:
- Very easy installation. Compared to other shower heads I've installed, this was one of the easiest considering its bulky design.
- Rain effect is relaxing, but not too impressive.

Cons:
- Flexible arm does not hold the heavy shower head in position after about 6 months of normal use. Repeated adjusting may damage the plastic mounting.
- Rain effect does not rinse soap off very well while showering. The second setting helps with this, but produces more of an uncomfortable sharp needle effect.

Overall: Shop around for a better model this one has some quality issues.

Customer Review: It's a good shower head
Summary: 3 Stars

It's not as wide as I expected. It covers about as much as other shower heads do.

3/21/2010 Update: A few months back the shower started to spray out of the top part and some of the holes don't release water anymore. I'm not as thrilled as I thought I would be about getting a Waterpik.

Customer Review: Excellent customer service, newer models are improved
Summary: 2 Stars

*** UPDATE *** 10/20
I contacted Waterpik customer service regarding my faulty Cascadia shower head, and they shipped me off a replacement--for free! No questions asked. The new one is improved from my old one. The switch works much better and there are definitely no leaks. The showerhead works really well. What I like best about it is the dual mode settings. Most showerheads that have more than one setting try to pack in a whole bunch of different modes. Most of them are difficult to tell apart, and all of those massaging ones need really good water pressure to do much of anything. Quite frankly, I've only experienced one massaging showerhead that I really liked--unfortunately a very expensive model and very wasteful with water.

The rain mode on this head is very good. It's not the largest, but I'd say better than average. I tested the flow and found it does deliver about 2.5 GPM (gallons per minute). The center jet is nicely powerful without feeling like needles pounding on your skin, delivering 3.5 GPM. It's great for rinsing your hair.

So, my 2 star review is a bit premature. I wish I could change it to 4 stars, as the replacement unit is great and Waterpik customer service exemplary.

I've owned my Cascadia for 5 years, having put it in storage for about 2 of them. So, 3 years of solid use. At first, I really liked it. If you have sufficient water pressure, you get a nice wide spray of water in rain mode. The center switch can change the mode from rain to center. The center jet is stronger and focused, good for getting your hair rinsed from conditioners.

HOWEVER, this product does NOT last. Like others have cited, the center switch is poorly made. There are 3 black rubber O-rings laid out on the plastic dowel, with some thin plastic shielding in between. That plastic shielding gets weak over time and ends up twisting, contorting, and eventually tearing. The result is that it lets water leak through the switch and exposes the O-rings to stress that eventually tears them, making the leak even worse.

By default, the head does have trouble staying up because of the flexible arm. This can be partially solved by tightening down the screw mechanism. It takes a while, but you can eventually make the arm stiff enough that it won't drop completely down on you. Unfortunately, it does leave only a few positions where the head will stay put.

The water action on this head is great. I would have given this product only 1 star if it weren't for that. This item sure looks good, and performs well when it is functional, but for the price it is NOT worth it. The only metal on this thing are four Philips head screws--everything else is plastic and rubber. The finish is fine, but the fit is sub par. Mine has gaps along the edges where the head stem pieces are. For this kind of quality, I'd expect the head to cost $15.

WHY can't Waterpik get its act together and make a decent product at a reasonable price? I'm on a quest for a REALLY good dual or triple mode shower head that is well designed and acceptably priced. If you know of one, please post in the comments. I'm going to try contacting Waterpik for a replacement switch in the meanwhile...
