The Wayne 1/2 HP 115-volt transfer water pump can pump water out of flooded basements, tanks, or boats. It can also increase line pressure by up to 40 pounds or be used to water lawns and gardens, and can even be used to wash cars and sidewalks. It's made from durable cast iron steel. The included suction strainer keeps out extraneous material, and the 3/4-inch brass hose connections resist stripping while easily connecting to garden hoses. A top-threaded priming port is easily filled, and the ball bearings have lifetime lubrication. Could not find anyone in my local area to fill my hydroponic (hot water) domestic heating system with some glycol water mix. I had a previous freezing problem (Michigan resident) so I was motivated to get it done. I drained the old water out and measured it. I bought 5 gal of Dow food grade polypropylene glycol and 15 gal of distilled water but could not figure out how to get it into the system. Gravity did not seem to work. A small submersible pump was pathetic.
I bought this 1/2 HP pump and it worked extremely well. I purged the system first with tap water, using the pump. The pipes and boiler were very dirty since they are 32 years old and my make-up water is from a well. I filled the boiler first, with the glycol, and then each zone with distilled water. The pump made the filling and bubble purging go very fast. I used a piece of iron pipe as an inlet and a garden hose as an outlet.
The pump is heavy and cast iron so you need to be careful about it rusting. I added some vegetable oil to help keep it from rusting. I would recommend this pump, great value for what it does. It would be even better if it had an on/off switch on it.
