Tools and Hardware Reviews of Westinghouse 03466 Nanolux 3-Watt G19 LED Bulb, White

Customer Review: Inconsistent color but usable. Only 1 watt so they are dim
Summary: 3 Stars

Very quick shipment and good packaging. Of the 8 bulbs purchased (all used in one panel next to each other) 3 look white, 4 look blue tinted and one looks purple tinted they do not seem very consistent in color or brightness but otherwise they meet my need on an 8 light bar in a bathroom fine. All i would ask for for is color consistency in which case I would buy more. They are too dim use 1 to 3 at a time unless they are night lights, refrigerator bulbs or other places where you do not need much lighting. But compared to year ago when I tried a few LED bulbs they have made progress if you need brighter bulbs I suggest the: Dimmable E26 A60 Standard Household Base 50 Watt Incandescent Light Bulb Replacement with a 6 Watt LED, Warm White, 1012ww OR The Dimmable Standard Screw Base A60 LED Light Bulb 5 Watt Globe, white 1012WH. The warm light is very good in color and equal to about 40 watts I would guess in a regular incandescent bulb. The white 1010WH is a fair bit brighter equal to 50 watts or so but may be too white for some. Conclusion of the bulbs on this page: The price is coming down and build quality looks good but color is inconsistent.

9/16 Addition. Testing 3 of these on a Kilowatt meter shows they only use 1 watt of power each. So the labeling of 3 watt is inaccurate and misleading. This is why they are so dim. If they were 3 watt bulbs they would be a fair bit brighter.

Customer Review: Not ideal for a refrigerator light, but fine for a feezer light.
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought one of these, hoping to use it as a high-efficiency low-heat alternative to the incandescent bulbs in the refrigerator. (Why make the fridge cool down those bulbs -- and they get hot!). I thought it would be a good fit, because instant-on, no-mercury, and low waste-heat are all good for a refrigerator-light. Also, the physical size of this bulb is about the same as the existing incandescent light in our refrigerator.

However, the light was too blue, too thin, and too dim to achieve girlfriend-approval -- all of the nicely-prepared food that she put in the fridge for us just didn't look right until I changed the bulb back to the incandescent bulb. I moved the LED bulb to the freezer, where the thin blue light looks appropriate.

If you're looking for a good general-purpose LED bulb, I'd recommend C.Crane's PAR38 bulb. It's a spotlight, and it won't fit in the fridge -- but it does work very nicely in the light-fixture on the back porch -- and the instant-on nature of the bulb makes it very preferable to a CFL in the middle of winter. I'm going to write a full review for this one next.

Customer Review: Disappointed, but happy in the end
Summary: 3 Stars

I had great hopes for our first LED bulbs - I bought 2 - specifically targetting them for our most used zone, our breakfast nook.

Unfortunately, these are...dim bulbs. Too dim to replace the CFLs we use now. I did not object to the blue color.

I had a back up plan, and we tried a bulb in our motion-detector front door light (only 1 bulb) but that was also too dim, not enough light for this location either.

The final step in the plan (and last chance) was to put these bulbs in our refrigerator, replacing the 2 incandescents inside (inside!) the cooling compartment. Finally, success! Our fridge takes 2 bulbs, and the 2 I bought provide just enough light and Vastly Less heat inside.

Bottom Line: These are dim, dimmer then you would think. You can find a use for them, but be prepared to keep trying locations until you are satisified.

Customer Review: Good LED, not bright enough for me.
Summary: 3 Stars

The LED produces a nice even light all around, which is great for the style bulb it is.

I purchased it as a reading light for my wife, so she could read in bed. She didn't want a bright light, but wanted a nice soft LED light that was in a regular table lamp with a lamp shade. Without the shade, it is the appropriate brightness, but with the shade (just a white shade), it is too dull.

I suggest using this somewhere where you need a really soft light, but the bulb will be shining directly on whatever you need. It also probably needs to be within 4-5 ft of whatever needs to be lit, or maybe if there are a bunch of these lights that could work too.

Customer Review: Nice bulb but very dim
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a very nice little light bulb but it's too dim for most applications. I put this bulb in a lamp in our family room. It's too dim to read by. I uploaded some images so you can see how it worked. To read with this light, the book would need to be about one foot from the bulb. Still, it's a cool little bulb, and given that it's only three Watts, the weak light output is hard to complain about.

Pros:
Only uses 3 Watts
Nice size and shape
Can be used outdoors

Cons:
Too dim for most applications
