Tools and Hardware Reviews of Westinghouse Lighting 03490 Nanolux 1-Watt S11 LED Bulb, White

Customer Review: It is what it is
Summary: 2 Stars

If you need a night light to dimly illuminate an otherwise pitch dark space, this tiny bulb will do it, with next to no discernible heat and no noticeable effect on your power bill. At less than $7 for a bulb which should last for over 5 years of continuous use, it's an ok deal.

But it is not suitable for anything else. It's not enough light to read by; it's barely enough light to type by. The light is a grayish purple. I use it to give enough light to a windowless hallway to find my way out when the other lights are off, and it does that job well enough.

If you need enough light to tell floor from wall, and if you want a bulb that isn't affected by vibration, doesn't produce heat, and will work for several years nonstop, then this bulb may do what you need. Anything else, it's hopeless. To put this in perspective, with my head by the bulb and my bared foot just over 6 feet away, I can see that it's a foot but I can't quite tell toe from toenail. To get five stars, it would need to put out about double the amount of light; then it could serve as a desk lamp bulb.

Addendum: taking away a star because I went to consider buying another, and the price has been raised to almost $11. That's no longer a good deal. Hint to manufacturers and resellers: the price of tech items goes down over time, not up. If it goes up, you're doing it wrong and deserve to lose sales.

Customer Review: It is just not as good as an icandescent or even a CFL.
Summary: 2 Stars

The item specs are good on paper, unfortunately it just is not a good product overall. It is weaker in lumen production compared to even a 7 watt incandescent. the fact that it produced a ice blue hue doesn't help matters. Not recommended as anything other than accent lighting (keep in mind that the light is very very cool in temperature). It would have been great if the company selling this stated the lumen production and light temperature of the bulb in the listing.

Customer Review: Tiny bulb. Very low light output.
Summary: 2 Stars

VERY Low light output. i am guessing under 5W regular bulb equivalent. Really want to like the whole LED low energy long life thing. But darn it is expensive and so little light output.

Customer Review: Nightlight Only
Summary: 2 Stars

This product is good only for a very dim night light. Nothing more. In my opinion, a little pricey for the amount of light it gives off.

Customer Review: Too dim to be useful, unless you need a night-light.
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this light as a test to see if it would work as a refrigerator light. It was too dim, too blue, and the light seemed too thin. In fact, the Westinghouse 3-watt bulb that I purchased was too dim to be used in the refrigerator (though it was OK in the freezer).

IMHO, this light is too dim to be useful as lighting, unless you need a night-light with a full-sized base. Another purpose that it might be good for is if you need a pocket-sized device to tell if a particular light-socket is live -- it doesn't get hot, it seems durable, and it's definitely small. I used it this way while I was tightening the screws that hold a light-fixture, and it was dim enough and cool enough that I wasn't going to blind myself or burn myself while wrenching -- and it gave a nice visual indication as to the state of the light-switch. But I'd be hard-pressed to find a permanent application for this bulb, unless it had a nightlight-sized base.
