Since I had had previous experience with Pur water filters, we purchased a side-by-side water and ice dispenser Whirlpool fridge over a year ago that uses these filters and they have made a huge difference in the quality of our water. We live in Riverview, FL, a suburb of Tampa, and the water here is so foul that I sometimes wonder if I have an odor from it after I shower. Since it smelled that bad coming from the tap I knew I was not going to drink it, cook with it, nor give it to my cats. So, to save us the expense of buying bottled water, we bought the fridge. Yes, the filters are expensive, but they are Pur water filters which, in my opinion, are better than Brita. I would rather have the expense than get sick drinking nasty water. Since I use the filtered water for just about everything, I have to replace my filter more frequently, but it is well worth the cost.
To save a few bucks, I order my filter online and three at a time; this usually saves me $3-5.00 per filter. Just search for the item number of the filter and you will find several places that sell it either as a single, a three-pack, a four-pack or a six-pack. Obviously, the more you buy, the more you save.

These are the standard filters for my refrigerator.
Where I live, the tap water is pretty awful -- hard, strong chlorine flavor.
These filters ensure the water that comes from my refrigerator tastes fresh & 'PUR'. As I tend to drink more water than any other beverage, having a quality filter is important to me.
These are designed to last 6 months -- compared to normal sink faucet PUR filters, I think you get a little more value out of these.
Installation is easy, water flavor improvement is drastic, and filter longevity / value are high. I suspect I could use these longer than 6 months each, but swap them out anyway for optimum flavor.
Recommended for anyone with a refrigerator or other appliance that uses this filter type.

Yes, the filter is quite expensive, but I did without mine for a month or so, because I ordered the replacement recommended by Whirlpool, which was the wrong one. So, I had to order a replacement, which meant more expense, but the quality of the water is just so much better, as well as the taste and smell of the ice. Installation is fairly easy, just make sure you have a flashlight if yours is at the floor level like mine. You have to line it up correctly. I will continue to replace mine when my refrigerator's light recommends. I won't like the expense, but I do believe it is worth it for better tasting and better smelling ice and water. I had never had water filtration in a refrigerator before, but I'm so glad that I do now.Customer Review: Water..tastes like water.

Got this for our Maytag entry level side by side. The old one lasted for a little over 6 months according to the fridge timer. It makes enough of a taste difference to stop my wife buying bottled water. I mean, really, how can you review a water filter. It still leaves some of the taste of the water that regular water drinkers can tell varies from place to place. It tastes just as good as those 'purified' brands with names similar to 'Aquafiner' and 'Darsani' but without the whole less pure than municipal supply stuff (allegedly). Will I buy again... yes. Do I still drink water from the sink... not anymore! So yeah, buy it.Customer Review: Works just like the original filter.

I haven't tested the water quality, so I guess I can't say that I know it's working well. But the water tastes fine - just like it did with the original filter. It was very easy to install on my Whirlpool side-by-side fridge.
One note that may be helpful to some: the black (or white) cap on the original filter is reused to cover the replacement filter. I realized after ordering that one of the caps shown in the product image was white, so I was worried I might receive a white one. But the cap easily comes off of the filter, so you just reuse the original. No need to worry about color problems when ordering.
