Tools and Hardware Reviews of Whirlpool Duet Sport : WFW8300SW 27 Front-Load Washer - whiteCustomer Review: Disappointing... Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased this washer and noticed, a few months after owning it, that my 'cold' washes were actually WARM. I added a garment to a load that had already started and was shocked to feel warm water. I thought I had been washing in cold for months! I called customer service and they told me that yes, there really is no true cold wash. The washer heats the water up to what they consider an optimal temp and yes, it's warm. I asked why you were able to choose 'cold' then and she said there really was no reason and it was unfortunate and misleading. If I had known this, I would not have purchased this washer. The cs person I talked to told me they get calls daily with people complaining about it. What a shame. Now I'm stuck with this washer and I can't even do the type of washing that I'd like! Never again! If you want to be to use COLD water for washing, do not purchase this washer!
Customer Review: 1 1/2 years old rocking and rolling Summary: 2 Stars
The washer is 1 1/2 years old with no problems until recently. Washer developed severe vibrations on spin cycle (washer is on concrete). Service rep. said the bearing was out on the spin cage. Repirs would cost more than the price of the washer. Whirlpool contacted and they paid for the parts so my out of pocket will only be $225. Apparently this bearing problem is a common one. The servcie rep. diagnosed the problem before he ever set eyes on the machine. Reading all the negative reviews make me wonder if I made a bad purchase!
Customer Review: Whirlpool 8300 duet sport washer Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this washer in Jan and it was delivered 22 Jan 10. On 19 Feb 10 gallons of water came rushing out from the front of the machine into my washroom, kitchen and into my finished basement. Luckily I was home. Dealer indicated they had some issues with small leaks but had never seen water coming out at this rate. They replaced the front panel - I wanted a new washer - that did not happen. On 10 Apr 10 I could not get washer to work - kept flashing codes. Dealer replaced a control - I asked for a new machine - but was denied. 19 Jun 10 water came out of the front of the machine again - luckily I was home. Dealer wants to fix it and Whirlpool indicated the same. Dealer repairman came out and ran a cycle and it did not leak for him - I guess they think I am making this up. But I did take a picture of the front of the machine and floor to show the water. I paid $700 for this piece of crap and neither the dealer nor Whirlpool will agree to replace it. You buy a new applicant and your expectation is that you will not have problems with it for several years. My problems started in less than 30 days. This experience does not give me a warm and fuzzy about the next 10 year life span of the washer. Whirlpool svc said as long as the machine is working they will not replace it. I asked the customer rep if he would like to have it in his house so he can clean up the water and have his home soaked. I am afraid to use the delay wash feature in fear I will have a flood again. All Whirlpool wants to do is extend my warranty another 6 months. Bull! I am so upset I do not know where to turn. I feel I got a lemon and the dealer nor Whirlpool will do what I believe is the rightful thing to do and replace the machine.
Customer Review: How badly do you want to spend time at a laundromat? Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased the Whirlpool Duet series washer and dryer about 2 years ago. I also purchased the extended warranty from Lowe's to cover additional repairs once the manufacturer's warranty expired.
The first year, the washed began turning off mid-wash. According to the repair man, the main circuit board went out. It was down for 2 weeks awaiting repair. No cost to me.
The beginning of the second year, the washer began leaking during loads. The main seal went out. The Lowe's repair man stated it was due to misuse because I did not turn all my pants/shirts inside out when I washed them. Although, I do button and zip up my pants before washing, admittedly, I had but never turned them inside out. I didn't realize that I was supposed to do this... It was down for three weeks awaiting the part from Indonesia. The cost was over $400.00.
Still within the second year, the washer is now turning off again mid-cycle. The repair man states that the main circuit board (or computer board) has gone out again. I have no idea how much this time it will cost me, and I am still awaiting for the repair to get completed.
Previously, I owned a cheap Roper top-load set. I owned it six years. I replaced the working Roper set because I thought I would save money and the environment with a energy efficient front load set. What a joke... I am definitely NOT saving any money...
Stay away from this set and Lowe's extended warranty!!! Both are a waste of money!
Customer Review: LEMON - Avoid the Whirlpool Duet Sport! Summary: 1 Stars
I took delivery of this washer on 9/1/07, in late November it stopped working. The motor refused to spin the basket at high speed and the wash cycle wouldn't complete. Despite the fact that the machine was clearly not performing normally, it did not display an error code.
A&E Factory Service has made three service calls so far with no resolution. While the service tech is courteous and seemingly competent, the rest of the organization is staffed by clowns. We have received incorrect replacement parts, duplicate shipments and a total runaround from the Whirlpool Customer Experience team. Right now, my Whirlpool Experience has been pretty bad.
While Whirlpool has honored their warranty to the letter, they have completely ignored its spirit and left me without a working washer for 6 weeks. They refuse to replace this lemon until the tech declares it unrepairable, which he won't do until he can no longer install new parts. In theory, this could be until the end of the warranty period. Good times!
The eco-friendly benefits of this washer were a draw, but its utter lack of dependability makes a strong case for a traditional (low-tech) top-loader.
Read other reviews before making your decision. You might also want to look into the Whirlpool Calypso settlement. Whirlpool has a history of pushing shoddy products.
