Tools and Hardware Reviews of Whitmor 6060-322 Supreme 4-Tier Shelving Unit, ChromeCustomer Review: Solid, sturdy and multi purpose! Summary: 5 Stars
I own a smaller version of this product. My mom purchased it for the kitchen. It's a solid thing and supports quite a bit of weight as long as it's distributed evenly among the shelves.
We decided to get a bigger one and it's just as good if not better. Feels even MORE sturdy (I guess because of the proportional size). We have a 1.2 Microwave, an Infrawave, a Toaster oven with Rotisserie and a bunch of other kitchen appliances on the shelves. This frees up an entire kitchen counter for other things.
The shelving system is also expandable so you can buy another or 1 shelf at a time and add it to make a taller system.
The smaller one now houses a 150lb CRT Flatscreen HDTV - it's a bit wobbly (because of the disproportional weight on the top) but is standing strong. I don't know how chrome works, I got the chrome finish and it doesn't scratch and hasn't rusted or anything - in other words the old shelf looks as good as new.
Pros:
Strong
Expandable
Chrome finish is classy looking, especially in the kitchen
Doesn't seem to scratch or rust (at least not in the 2 years I've owned it)
Cons:
None I can really think of.
The bottom line is that I recommend this shelving system based on these factors.
Customer Review: Outstanding Summary: 5 Stars
One person can set these up in a few minutes.
They look good, are solid as a rock, and absolutely stable.
Easily adjust any shelf thanks to convenient markings on the posts and clips that keep the shelf where you set it.
Actually 5-tier shelves since you can position the bottom shelf as high off the floor as you like and store stuff under it.
One useful configuration is to place the bottom shelf six inches off the ground, the next shelf six inches above that, the next shelf six inches below the top, and the top shelf at the top. That allows you to store shoes on the bottom shelf and under it, hang coats on the next to top shelf, and store gloves, hats and scarves on the next to top and top shelves. (I have one set up like this in my garage for winter coats, boots, gloves, etc.)
BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews take the place of first-hand experiences that are lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've gotten from other reviewers and continue to return the favor as best as I can. If you thought this review was helpful please let me know by clicking on "Yes" button where it asks. If there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I'll do what I can to fix it.
Customer Review: Perfect storage Summary: 5 Stars
I have two of these. I bought the first one over a year ago for my bathroom storage unit. It holds magazines, makeup, hand towels, vases, etc. I loved the look of it and while the bathroom one doesn't test its strength, the one I bought for additional storage does. I use it to hold folded clothing that didn't fit in my dresser drawers and also to house all my photo albums and magazines. I have a garment rack across from it and the chrome finishes match perfectly. I really love the fact that each shelf can hold so much. Every time I've bought something of slightly less cost, its been tremendously less quality, so I'm sticking with these shelving units for my storage needs. The height is really good, not too short. I stack my clothes on the bottom two shelves and the albums, magazines, etc on the top 2. Its great that one can arrange the heights how they please, it makes measurements a non-issue. Its also reassuring its not made of paperboard or another inferior product that will bow or break over a small span of time. I'm considering buying another one to replace my sagging bookshelf with. So far, these get my vote!
Customer Review: Sturdy and good-looking. Summary: 5 Stars
My husband likes to climb mountains. This means that in our bedroom we have four sleeping bags (for different temperatures), three tents (ditto, climates), countless boots, clips, poles, axes -- honestly, the man has bear-proof storage containers. And he complains about my shoe collection. When his birthday came around, I started thinking of finding some solutions to his mountain gear storage difficulties. Sure, Denali is difficult to climb, but it's nearly as difficult to get a sleeping bag out from beneath that enormous stack of gear -- that is, if you don't want to end up pinned to the floor by a falling ice axe. So, I found these racks, and they work well for piling up the gear. The shelves I was looking for had to be reasonably good-looking, which these are, but most of all, they had to be strong, which these definitely are. Great shelves.
Customer Review: Great for my small apartment! Summary: 5 Stars
I love these shelves. I have four of them in my studio apartment and they're perfect for storing all of my things. I just cover them with a curtain to hide my stuff. I have a tiny kitchen with small cabinets and I got one to use as a pantry for my canned goods, juice, recycling, etc. I've never worried about if I put too many things on it because it's really sturdy. I'm a Ph.D. student and have lots of big books and loaded these up and they're just fine. Smaller items might not sit well on them but you can always put them in a plastic container. The great thing about them is that you can take them apart and take them with you when you move without worrying about them getting damaged. If it didn't make me look crazy, I would line the rest of my walls with these shelves!
