After learning how expensive it is to sharpen saw blades, and my habit of dumpster diving at several woodworking shops for wood and how difficult it was to always find staples or other wood fastening devices in the "used" wood - I found the Lumber Wizard a must have device. True to its description - it is a Wizard at finding metal in wood. Like many have said - well worth the money - It is a bit large and the accordian line folds on the wand itself are a bit confusing as to whether it detects metal in only this area, but certainly no cause for dissatisfaction at all.Customer Review: Saved time and costly repairs and blades

I bought this metal detector to help locate hidden nails in the 1K bd ft of chestnut I bought from an old house - it paid for itself many times.
I also used it to locate nails that escaped my immediate area as I was removing the obvious nails from the boards - it will beep and vibrate.
If you want to save your planer and jointer blades spend the extra bucks and get this great and easy to use product.

Great piece of equipment for anyone who has occasion to use old lumber or who processes their own lumber. I am a woodworker who specializes in historic structures. The Lumber Wizard III Metal Detector does everything it is suppose to do and paid for itself in the first day of use on a 1790's mantel when more than twenty nails were removed. Every wood worker with a planer or joiner should have one of these. The cost of one of these will save you valuable time and money on your blades by finding rouge nails hiding out in your wood. Just one nail will ruin your day and your blades, plus the time to reset your new blades.

Paid for itself on the first run.I'd have obliterated 4 sets of planer knives had it not been for this gadget. After initial adjustment (per instructions) it performed flawlessly. In addition, it's a great lazy mans way of checking your laundry for coins before running it through the wash
