Tools and Hardware Reviews of Yard Butler RP-3 24-Inch Roto Planter

Customer Review: Great For Compost
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this Planter for the specific purpose of turning and aerating my trash can composter. It works perfectly for this purpose and after a few plunges into the compost pile everything was mixed evenly. As for making holes it was less than perfect, but I chalk that up to the rocky Texas clay in my yard.Yard Butler Roto Planter 24-Inch Long 2.75-Inch Diameter #RP-3 This past fall (2009) I used it to plant some pansies and found that if the soil was good and wet then it worked pretty good for planting and digging holes. I did have to grind one side of the shaft flat so the drill would grip it better.

Customer Review: Good for light planting
Summary: 4 Stars

This thing was used to plant small 12-18 inch bare root shrubs. The holes drilled fine for the most part. The drill bit spun too many times in the drill. The end of the auger needs some grinding to take away the circle, if you grind a little hex shape on the end it is not as likely to spin in your drill. The drill chuck can grip it better.

Otherwise it worked fine. Would also work for bulbs and other tuber type plants.

Customer Review: Soil hole auger
Summary: 4 Stars

What's to say. The oversized earth drill big made holes in my heavy clay so I could install termite baits and traps.

I powered the auger with a heavy duty 1/2 inch electric drill. Neat holes took only 10-15 seconds.

The only flaw with the product is the round shaft slipping inside the drill chuck. I fixed that by grinding flats on three sides.

Customer Review: Works pretty good
Summary: 4 Stars

Buy this as opposed to the Awsome Auger in the made for TV adds. It is strong, and not a rip off for shipping and handling. It is a great labor saver for bulbs, annuals and loosening dirt in flower beds. Use a good cordless drill and let it do the work. Don't expect it to get thru roots. And if the dirt is loose and dry, the dirt will tend to fall back into the hole.

Customer Review: Great tool for planting bulbs!
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this tool to plant bulbs in my garden (100 bulbs)in January in CA. Dug 100 holes in 1 hour, without any struggle. Make sure the ground is wet, and not too dry. Avoid rocks if you can. I used my husbands DeWalt cordless drill motor which worked really well. If you like to plant bulbs every year, this is a must.
