NOW WITH NEW REDESIGNED CUTLERY HOLDER AND LIFETIME WARRANTY (needs registration on Zojila website) The dish drainer has been reinvented to solve all your problems elegantly... This brand new item, from the manufacturer, in original packaging features; 3-piece design including dish rack, drain board and cutlery holder, all of high quality 18-8 stainless steel. Raised drainboard overhangs all sinks and continuously drains water to sink. Rack holds pots and pans. Enlivens your workspace while reducing workload and increasing cleanliness. Curved side is 18 inches long and lines up with sink to allow water to automatically drain to sink. Curved side takes up the depth of your counter. Water drains from the central region of the curved side. Short side is 14 inches long, sloped and will line up parallel to the counter. The top of a 12 inch dish placed on the rack will be 15 inches high. Drainboard is raised on legs and sits more than an inch above counter top at the draining edge. Legs have protective covers to prevent slippage and damage to counter top. Drainer can be placed on either side of sink and the rack is reversible as well. Following customer feedback, we have redesigned the cutlery holder. It is now enclosed all around and features a removable divider for easier cleaning. We have been shipping the new cutlery holder along with all order placed since mid-April 2011. All comments in the older reviews regarding the deficiencies in the cutlery holder do not apply any longer since all problems have been solved in the new, very elegant cutlery holder. The new cutlery holder is also available for purchase as an accessory for those who have the old one. This item does not rust, what some call rust is actually brown spots from high mineral content in water in some places. You can do the math but I'll save you the time: out of 60 reviews - 61 counting mine- 54 have 4 or 5 stars. I've gone through my share of strainers and here is why I absolutely agree with the rave reviews:
1. It was practically ready to use - right out of the box. Of course, we had to unwrap it and take off all the packaging material. But it only took a few minutes to do that and then place the utensil holder where we wanted it.
2. This can be used on either the right or left side of a sink. Expensive? Yes, but less pricey than a dishwasher and a great aid if you don't have one, have a small family, or just want to save some energy (dishwasher energy, not human energy spent washing the dishes...but then, even those with dishwashers may wash and rinse the dishes first).
3. Although some reviewers have noted that they needed to adjust the slant of the drainer to get water to flow directly into the sink (and not on counters), we didn't have to do a thing. It worked perfectly.
4. We've never found a dish drainer designed so well. We have brand new counter tops and I wanted to minimize drips and stains. I had no idea we could find a rack drainer that completely eliminated major drips. I do take care to wipe our counters daily but it is no longer a headache dealing with my dish drainer. Older models would be a pain to use, leaving such a mess! I was tempted to put everything in the dishwasher but I prefer the energy savings of this dish rack. We have plenty of meals where a simple dish drainer holds everything we've used.
Here is my only CAUTION:
If you have a large family, this won't hold your dishes. It is smaller than many other dish racks we've used but it uses the space given very effectively. There is a metal "board" under the rack and it is also tilted so that water is less likely to spill. Finally, a TIP on how to get the best use of this: don't use it on the side of your sink where you have a sprayer. Depending on your sprayer, you'll have splashes, sometimes major, on the drainer. Avoid that and put it on the other side of the sink. That way, the only water going into the drainer will be from wet dishes, utensils, and glasses...and this drainer can handle all of that moisture and feed it into the sink.
Yes, it is pricey, but if anyone knows of a better product, I'm definitely interested!
