Tools and Hardware Reviews of Zojila 'Rohan' Dish Rack Drainer Utensil holder and Drain board, Stainless Steel Self Draining

Customer Review: Great product, thoughtful design
Summary: 5 Stars

Why is it that no other company can come up with something as well-designed? Once they test it in a "lab," can't they see that it doesn't work well? We've tried other lines, from the more expensive Simplehuman (great trash cans, bad dish racks) to generic racks on mats, and this rack is much better by far. With the other racks, one basic problem was that the tines/slots would not accept anything beyond certain types of flat plates--not too big, not too small, not too deep, etc. and to work around it, one would have to try something like use two slots per bowl, or lean it up against a side. Somehow, this rack system has been able to take anything that we've put on it, from deep bowls stacked one per slot, all the way to large service plates. It seems so simple, and yet it clearly is not.

There are some other nice design flourishes that have not been mentioned in the other reviews: the curved part of the rack where all the plates are stacked is not a simple curve, with a continuous arc around a radial point. It levels off much like those curves that slowly reach a "limit." On the other open side of the rack, this curve is matched, making for a pleasing visual symmetry. Also, the rack is elevated, making it ideal for granite countertops, since granite eventually absorbs water if water is standing for too long, such as when it gets trapped under a mat.

After using it for about a year, there are only a few downsides. The silverware rack can sometimes slip off the rack, and since it's open on the sides, items can slip out. Also, the open side of the rack is on the smaller side, so there isn't a lot of room for mugs, irregular items, etc. Still, we are quite pleased with this item and recommend it highly.

Customer Review: Excellent dish rack. I don't have any of the problems other reviewers have reported.
Summary: 5 Stars

Granted, I just received this dish rack in the mail today, but I have tested it against as many of the other complaints I have read about this rack in other reviews as I can remember.

As you can see from the captions I left in the 2 pictures I uploaded of the silverware holder, there is no possible way for any of my silverware to slide in between the sheet metal pieces used to make this item and get stuck. I did notice when I opened the box, though, that the bottom piece of the silverware holder hadn't been pushed in all the way, thus leaving a little slot that silverware could have slid through. It took only a half-second and no effort at all to correct the problem by merely pushing the bottom piece upwards a little.

The other major complaint I read from others is that glasses can slide through the side facing the sink and break. My glasses are big enough that they can't fall through unless they are already on their side. But just to be overly cautious, I moved the silverware holder to the sink-side of the rack to keep anything from sliding through. Problem solved.

As for bowls (i.e. 7" x 2.5" cereal bowls), you can either lay them down flat in the bottom part of the rack, or stand them up vertically in the upper rack like you would plates. The rack seems to hold the bowls just fine.

The drip tray funnels water to the center very well. No complaints on this feature at all.

Overall, other than this item being overpriced, I'm extremely happy with this product so far. It looks really nice, unlike all the other standard crappy plastic ones on the market. Despite the price, I'd buy this again.

Customer Review: A Dish Rack That Inspires
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this dish rack because I didn't want to buy yet one more plastic item that would just last a few years then end up in the landfill. I knew I could keep it my whole life, perhaps even pass it down to future generations. Little did I know I would find inspiration in its design. This rack gleams on my countertop like fine sculpture. Instead of hiding it, I point it out to my friends. That someone would put so much thought and care into the humble dish rack is inspiring: we can all make a difference in our own small ways.
I choose not to own a dishwasher, so I can attest that doing dishes is a pleasure with this rack. Dishes dry faster because the rack holds them absolutely upright and separate. The rack is large enough to accommodate pots, and can even securely hold a 16"x22" cutting board because of the angled slats. I was a little skeptical about the drain tray because it has no rim. But the elegant curvature of the tray allows water to flow exactly where it should, into the sink. You know how cheap racks get slimy feet? No problem here: the feet of this rack are enclosed within tubes that protrude up from the tray.
This is the best dish rack ever, and if you think it's expensive consider that you'll save money in the long run because it's the last dish rack you'll ever buy for yourself. Of course, if you're gift shopping, this would be a perfect symbol of eternal friendship and love. I hope you and yours enjoy it as much as I do.

Customer Review: Great product and even better customer service
Summary: 5 Stars

First off, let's talk about the most important aspect: is it any good? Well, frankly, yes, it's great, both design-wise (look stylish), quality-wise (it's well-made) and practicality-wise (it firmly holds plates in place, has adequate space for glasses, cups, etc., and drains as it promises to). I decided to buy this particular rack because I have a small kitchen and the drainer area next to the sink is too small for pots, pans and plates, etc. With this product, I can place this to the other side of my sink and the water drains away without messing up my sideboards and gives me double the space to dry stuff...Presto!
Secondly, I really should mention Rony at Zojila whose customer service was exceptional. I live in the UK and the first attempt to deliver the package was foiled by the US Potal Service who didn't put it on the plane and sent it back to Zojila. Rony dutifully traipsed again back to the post office to resend through no fault of his own. When I eventually received the package (thanks USPS, yes, "on the plane, there's a clever boy") an item was missing. Rony immediately responded to my concerned email and assured me that a replacement would immediately be sent. Sure enough, I received it (without USPS delay this time!) in good time and safely packaged.
A pleasure to deal with and a fantastic product...I hope the company does well and I would recommend this drainer to anyone.

Customer Review: Inspiring!?
Summary: 5 Stars

Well, I'm embarrassed to gush about a dish drain, yet this aesthically-pleasing and fabulously functional kitchen item inspired me to spring clean my kitchen, which was sorely in need of attention I realized afterwards. My rusty, mildewy Rubbermaid dish drain and drain board were evidently holding me back! :-)

I don't have a dishwasher or a microwave, so I have a lot of pots and pans at mealtime along with the plates for my family of three. I was worried that the rack wouldn't be able to handle the pots at the same time as the plates, but it's not a problem. The design makes efficient use of the space, and I have no trouble managing all the odd shaped items along with the usual plates and glasses.

I can't speak for how long the Zojila dish rack drainer and board will hold up, but it looks like it will have a much longer life than the tacky Rubbermaid models I've used and thrown out in the past. When you calculate the cost and frequency of replacing cheaper models, the Zojila model probably saves money over time.

I'll say this, beyond the $$ savings one gains over frequent replacement of cheap substitutes, it's hard to put a price on having something functional on the counter that's appealing not detracting, and maybe even inspiring! I'm very impressed, and it's quite rare that I say that about consumer products.
