Tools and Hardware Reviews of Irobot Roomba 562 Pet Series Vacuum Cleaning RobotCustomer Review: Fantastic and SO Worth it... Summary: 5 Stars
The Roomba 562 (pet series) vacuum is absolutely the best cleaning device for our home. We have three pets (2 cats and 1 dog). Have a combination of tile and Berber carpeting. We were a bit skeptical at first and this is not an inexpensive item to test and see whether it really does what we need/want. It does. It gets to places that I rarely do (except for the annual spring cleaning rite of passage); under couches, bureaus, buffets, beds, etc. It is fairly adept in avoiding wires (speaker, phone, electrical), however, it can become stuck or hung up. It does "speak" and let you know. How neat is that? For us, it typically takes more than the 25 minutes to clean a room (as stated in their information). I don't care if it takes an hour...it frees me up to do other cleaning around it or elsewhere in the house. One small bit of advice, plan to spend the first few cleaning cycles simply watching it (something like a fireplace fire). It's hard NOT to watch. When it senses extra dirt, the small blue light comes on...and it spends extra effort in that area before moving on.
With this unit, there is a docking station and two "virtual walls". The Roomba begins its cleaning task at the docking station and returns when it's done. When it docks, there's a pleasant chime/chortle to signal its job is done. The two virtual walls are battery operated (batteries were not included). Those are placed to prevent Roomba from going beyond these electronic walls.
Reading the brief instruction manual is important. It explains how to clean and get the Roomba ready for its next cleaning foray. It is really important to clean the two on-board brushes EACH time the Roomba is used...before it's charged to clean again. Dirt and pet hair get wrapped around the ends of the brushes and, of course, makes the unit work harder...and can, over time, shorten the life of the unit.
It does "bump" into furniture, etc. which is not a big deal. It must do that in order to "sense" where something is and reroute itself. We do tend to pick up things to make cleaning more efficient. We tend to pick up wastepaper baskets, kitchen sink mats, cat scratching pads, problematic wires (it occasionally will re-arrange the surround speaker wires). It is adept and going for tile to carpet and back to tile with no effort.
The pets were mildly curious the first time they encountered the Roomba. Now, there's little notice given. There have been times where the Roomba has bumped into them...and they make a hasty retreat. Again, step away from watching the Roomba do its work...it's supposed to save you time. It won't/can't until you let it work...and you so something else. There's probably an APP for that!
Since we to have the pets, we use the larger dust bin (included) for the Roomba. The larger bin does not have the filter as on the smaller bin, but with hair, we've found the larger to work out far better for our needs. Each time the Roomba completes its cleaning cycle, the dirt bin is emptied...and you'll be amazed at how much "stuph" it gets/cleans! Always thought I had a clean house...well, not so much.
Another advantage...if you are having difficulty in maneuvering a traditional vacuum cleaner, this may be a great alternative for you. Save wear and tear on yourself.
I would recommend this without reservation.
