Tools and Hardware Reviews of iRobot 110 Dirt Dog Workshop RobotCustomer Review: Great little robot! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this for two reasons: My garage and unfinished basement. Due to physics I can't explain... every time I open my garage door every speck of grass, sand, leaves, etc in a 4 mile radius is sucked into my garage in a swirling vortex of doom. I have been sweeping out my garage daily and my push broom just isn't doing my good.
I thought for the price... why not try? I'm glad I did!
First night after I charged 'Dawg' up I set him to work. I heard him bumping along happily in my garage and in an hour, the floor was spotless! I could walk around my garage with white socks and they stayed clean!
He needed a juice boost so I plugged him back in for the night. Next day I sent him to work in the basement. My cat sometimes kicks his wood pellet litter out, and I also have chinchillas and I keep bins of hay downstairs. The pellets and hay were always hard to sweep up... Hay got stuck in the broom, pellets rolled randomly around the floor. The Dirt dog picked everything up.
I am now researching which irobot roomba that I want to get for the rest of the house... I think I'm going to splurge and go with the 610 Pro. I'm excited to have another irobot join the household and might also look at the scooba as well!
The dirt dog is a great way to keep areas swept and neat. I also loan him out to family and friends that need a good sweeping. My parents love it when I bring him over. We have dinner and he cleans up their garage.
Customer Review: Definitely one of my Favorite Things Summary: 5 Stars
The Roomba Dirt Dog really should have been mentioned in the Sound of Music. It is soooo one of my favorite things. I put Dirt Dog in the house and he runs over wood floors and tile sucking up dog hair and small toys. I put Dirt Dog in the garage and he sucks up fur and surf wax. Perhaps we're seeing a theme here. He's a pro at sucking up dog hair. Dirt Dog will clean our entire 1200 sq foot house of all dog fur, sand, and random detritus which litters one's abode. He fits under almost all our furniture. Since he doesn't have a vacuum his reservoir is bigger and he can do a run for the entire house. Some genius figured out that the front wheel needed to be easily detachable so that pops right out to be cleaned- our first Roomba flattened this wheel when dog hair prevented the wheel from turning and the wheel was sanded flat by the wood floor. Yikes. My one concern with this absolutely wonderful robot, with which my life would not be complete, is that the IRobot folks have changed their call centers. Yes, its sad. But, if you call for tech support you may be routed outside of the US to tech support that cannot understand the words coming out of your mouth. Its a fairly frustrating experience. Email is no better. I received one email that was so badly penned, I could not determine what the sender intended. Unless it was one of those Agatha Christie plot devices for naming the murderer or a Super Secret Squirrel Code for "your new robot is on its way via Smart Post". AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
Customer Review: Improved my life Summary: 5 Stars
I recently moved into an all hardwood and tile apartment of approximately 1200 sq ft. I have "normal" furniture and a few throw rugs. More importantly, I have a girlfriend with long hair, a puppy, and a cat. I usually spent approximately 20 minutes 1-2 a week vacuuming the apartment. Not a big deal, but certainly a task that if not done, would be noticed due to the large dust/hair bunnies around the floor boards. The dirt dog took approximately 6-7 hours to charge fully and I've run it approximately 15-20 times since receiving it from Amazon. The charge lasts from 1.5-2 hours currently.
Performance is great. Others have described it, but essentially it bounces around the apartment. We have 4 rooms and 2 bathrooms and it gets around to each of them ~2 times per run. The mass of hair/dirt that this thing picks up is amazing. Even running it on consecutive days, it still fills the bin and the floor can be walked on barefoot without feeling the dirt.
Possible drawbacks-it is loud. I'm not sure why this is surprising, what vacuum cleaner is pleasant to listen too. We typically run it at night and with the door closed we can barely hear it running. I wouldn't recommend having it in the room you are trying to sleep in, that might be too much. Our animals barely pay it any attention except to keep out of the way. All in all, I'd say this is truly and without exaggeration a device that has improved and changed the way we keep our apartment tidy.
Customer Review: I LOVE IT!! Summary: 5 Stars
I love my dirt dog!!! I have had my dirt dog for about three weeks now. My b-friend was not sold at first but he loves that he doesn't have to sweep.
My floor needs to be swept every day. My dog going in and out several times, tracking dirt and debris in. My b-friend who works construction bringing in dirt, sand from the beach. Food from the nephews and niece all gone. I am a barefoot bohemian and I no longer suffer from dirty feet. I run it once a day and it works wonders. I do recommend following the instructions and cleaning it on the third use. Just like any rotary brush, string, hair etc gets wrapped around it. By cleaning it keeps it going, just remember to put the brushes back in before you clean. Already happened once. :)
It runs for about an hour and a half, beeps if the compartment is full. And takes about 3 hours to charge. I have to pick up my floor mats and any cords, and it is a loud hard to hear the television over it but a little inconvenience to not have to sweep every day. My bedrooms have carpet so I close the doors. It is so sensitive it bounces off my dogs, soft bed and toys.
What comes out of the dirt compartment is amazing. It is picking up dust; it always looks like something out of a dryer lint trap.
Bottom line, if you have lots of tile, hardwood floor, linoleum etc this rocks! It will be way worth every penny.
I LOVE MY DIRT DOG!!
Customer Review: Love It Summary: 5 Stars
I've had my dirt dog for about a month and use it every day. Similar to another user that posted a review, I do dog rescue and live on a farm, so my floors (tile) have a problem with dog hair and tracked in sand. My house killed several regular vacuuming roombas about 4 years ago - the sand would clog and jam the wheel wells and the compressed air that iRobot support recommended couldn't get it out. I was VERY pleased with iRobot's customer service as they sent me replacement units during the warranty period. At the end of the year warranty, however, I gave up on the roomba vacuum. When I saw the dirt dog was made for hard floors and challenging places like garages and workshops I thought I would give it a try. It is doing GREAT. When I use the broom to sweep up dog hair it flies around and I never get it all, but the dirt dog gets all the hair plus it goes under places and into corners that I usually skip when I'm sweeping by hand. Several friends have stated that they've never seen my floors so clean! Next paycheck I'm considering getting a scooba to wash the floors once a week. Since I saw that several users who posted reviews named their dirt dogs with female names, I decided to name mine Tony after the housekeeper on Who's the Boss, lol. (PS: The roomba vacuum that I tried 4 years ago did great on the carpeting in my back bedrooms, it just couldn't handle the sand on the hard floors).
