The iRobot Dirt Dog is a hard working little robot! I bought my Dirt Dog in March 2008 and use it every night to sweep up the wood floors of my family room, kitchen and then again in the morning to sweep the foyer and entry hallway. It stinks at cleaning the corners but it gets all the mess, crumbs, crayons, and small objects that my 4 little boys leave behind. I have to empty it once a day and clean it once a week, since it works so hard - but hey this is a tiny chore in comparison! I am able to sort laundry, clean up the dishes, read a bedtime story or even get ready for the next day with the time I save from having to sweep each room on my own. I just love my little robot and I plan on getting another so I can run them both at night instead of running my current robot twice a day.
If you are thinking about throwing away your broom, then this probably isn't the robot for you. But if you have realistic expectations, and would like a little help making your home look tidy while you take care of the bigger chores... give this robot a try!
Oh, and to get your corners clean, sweep the dust/junk out of the corners into the path of the robot and walk away!

This is pretty much the best way to spend a hundred bucks. I don't have any carpeting in my house, just wood, tile, and slate. Dirt Dog tackles all three surfaces with ease. He cleans much more thoroughly than I ever would; when it is done, the floors gleam. I have had no problems at all, it is very simple to remove and empty the receptacle bin, and clear off the brushes now and then. I show it to all my friends, and recommend it highly, it is fun to watch the sophisticated programming in use as it avoids objects and still cleans every inch of the floor. It even has a side brush to push dirt and dog hair and grass clippings out of corner and along edges so he can gobble them up with the main sweeper bristles. A must have. If you were considering getting one, I highly recommend you take the chance.
UPDATE: Just after the warranty expired, the battery stopped working. I followed all instructions for resetting it to no avail. The replacement battery is about half the cost of the unit itself, and I can't bring myself to pull the trigger on purchasing one knowing that this will most likely be an annual expense. Sad, because this was one very cool sweeper.
Customer Review: great little worker if you have dogs

I got this because I have 5 dogs so I have a lot of hair and whatever they bring in on their coats. I waited over a month before giving a review. My home is all tile except for the bedrooms most mornings I turn it on while I get ready. It is noisy but I just close my bedroom door and let the robot go to work. It took almost a week for it to get all the hidden hairballs but after that it does a great job picking up large chunks of dog food,pieces of weeds and fine dust and just keeping my floor clean of "stuff" so I can have a guest stop by at any time and not be embarrassed. The dogs got use to it in a matter of days but you can't watch tv w/ it running or you will have to blast the tv sound. It is easy to clean the 2 brushes and once a week I blast the whole robot w/ some canned air to get rid of all the dust. It last about 45 mins before needing a recharge but if you run it a few times a week 45 mins should take care of most of the "stuff" on the floor. Do not let it on non-berber carpet or it will stop but it goes over my carpeted door mats no problem. Remember this is a sweeper not a vacum but I do plan on getting the irobot vacum for pets for my carpeted areas.Customer Review: Dirt Dog is my friend!

I love dirt dog! I have 3 I-Robots now. Love 'em all. They are running as I write. I have two labs that shed a pound a hair a day, it is just laughable. I started with a Roomba Scheduler (I baby it and keep it clean after every use) and have now added dirt dog to our pack(a lot less parts to clean than Roomba.) I then set Scooba to finish the details. My life is so much easier.
Some complain of the noise, but I can at least talk on the phone or to another person when they are running. Try doing that over a traditional vacuum cleaner.
I do have to make sure my floors are cord free. We have streamed floors from cords to make these awesome robaot work for us.
I use compressed air and blow them out after everyuse, because they do pick up an amazing amount of dirt and hair. I want these robot to hang around for a long time. I've had my Roomba since since 2006. I've only had to buy a new battery for old Roomba once. I've also, unscrewed my Roomba and Dirt Dog to give them a deep through cleaning too.
All of this versus me sweeping everyday...I will never be without one.

This irobot dirt dog has less sophisticated parts than the roomba and it runs pretty good. My observation is that it cleans really well and it goes to some of the hard to reach places. It runs for 1 hour on a full charge and it does sweep up most of the debris and sand on the little red rug that I have in the garage.
I was really impressed as my other roomba would not go on a burgundy rug. As for durability I don't know yet , hopefully it will last over 1 year. Try not to watch the dirt dog when its cleaning , otherwise you would wonder where its going all the time. It would suddenly stop and turn around !! But after 1 hour or so you can really see the floors are much cleaner and it has done its job. I definetely recommend getting one !!
