Tools and Hardware Reviews of iRobot 500 Series Roomba Vacuum-Cleaning Robot with On-Board Scheduling

Customer Review: LOVE THIS THING!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased "Spot" from Amazon on sale and am wondering why I waited that long... I just absolutely love this little robot! With my busy schedule, the floors seem to be the last thing to get attention and my dark carpet shows every little crumb. Now that "Spot" is on duty, I just touch the clean button and away he goes, leaving me time to make a meal or relax with my favorite tv show. I know he has a scheduling feature so he can clean while I'm away or asleep but frankly, it's just too much fun to watch him work!

If you're considering purchasing a robot vac, please don't hesitate like I did. While you won't totally eliminate the need for a regular vacuum, this is the perfect answer for keeping the day to day crumbs, leaves and dust off the floor. When you empty the bin after each use, you'll wonder where all of it came from. It accidentally swept up a cord one day and I was totally impressed with how it recognized what was happening and reversed it back out again. I am extremely pleased with this purchase and will be giving it as a gift to my 80 year old mom!

Customer Review: Worth every penny!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was a little scared to spend hundreds on this but let me tell you it is worth every penny. I bought one of the first 2 generations years ago and took it back for not working at all. Not so with the 500 model. I have 2 dog (one is a husky-sheds a LOT) and a cat. This little robot keeps every thing clean and gets more dirt of the floor than I even thought I had. I run it every other day or so and it re-docks its self to charge after it is done. It took a while for it to learn where the dock was but it was my own fault because I never even used the "light houses". They are still in the box. We are even looking for another one to keep on hand in case this ever dies. So far we have had it for 8 months and it is going strong.

The only down side is how small the trash tray is. With all of our dog hair it gets caught in every brush, around the rollers, wheel, etc. I have to clean it out daily but it still works perfect and is worth the mess of cleaning it out. It saves me a LOT of time since it can go under the sofa, chairs, etc, and I never have to move any thing again.

Customer Review: Great Helper in the Bedroom
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had the Roomba for about a month now and I can honestly say that my bedroom floor has never been cleaner. I run the Roomba every couple of days and am always surprised by the amount of stuff that it manages to pick up. We have a cleaning lady that comes every 2 weeks so this is perfect for those in between stages. Amazing how much sock lint and general fuzz that gets spread around on the floor daily.

The fact that it can go under the bed and around obsticales has been well proven in our space.

I will occassionally set it lose on the other rooms of the house. I will find it a couple of hours later with a run down battery but a dust bin full of pet hair and other items. I will clean him up and carry him back to his base to get ready for another mission.

I highly recommend for anyone that is loathe to vacuum.

I was hesitant to purchase after reading some of the reviews that questioned the reliability and/or quality. I love the Roomba and hope he works forever.

Customer Review: Does what it claims to do
Summary: 5 Stars

It works. I don't have to. That pretry much sums it up.

The only negatives (so far after about six weeks of use) is (1) it leaves the fringes of my area rugs in a mess and I have to fix them after every cleaning, and (2) it sometimes deposits fluff on the edges of my area rugs.

I have hard wood floors, wall to wall carpeting, area rugs, vinyl and marble tile floors, and it cleans all of these different surfaces well. It spends a lot of time cleaning my wall to wall carpets (a lot more than I was willing to do) and they have never been so clean.

I recommended it to my daughter, who purchased one and is happy that she did. It definitely is worth the $200 on-sale price that we paid for it. I was so pleased with my roomba, I also bought a scooba, for washing floors, which is also working well. Now, the only unpleasant cleaning chores left for me to do, that the i-robot people need to invent a machine for, is cleaning tubs and toilets.

Customer Review: We now have our own Robot just like the Jetson's.
Summary: 5 Stars

We've had our 550 for about a week. So far it works great. We have a large open dining room, living room and kitchen (about 1000 sq. ft.) and the 550 can clean the whole area in about 1 hour.

Pluses: The 550 is quiet; one can easily talk on the phone or watch TV while it is running. Docks itself when done. Gets under furniture that is hard to move. Moves back and forward between and cleans well on hard tile surfaces and carpets.

Minuses: We have Pony Tail Palm tree with long leaves and we have to make sure none of the leaves are hanging down for the 550 to tangle itself in. We have a coffee table that has the same clearance as the height of the 550 and it gets wedged under the edge. The 550 nicely shuts itself off and waits for help.

With our open floor plan, we are still trying the determine the best placement for the Virtual Wall Lighthouses.

Would we buy the 550 again, at this point the answer is a big Yes.
