Tools and Hardware Reviews of iRobot 560 Roomba Vacuuming Robot, Black and Silver

Customer Review: GREAT PURCHASE!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

WOW! The Roomba does a great job. I don't like to vaccum, and don't do it often. The result is that I was constantly getting small particles stuck in my feet or sandals, and I think those small dust particules were aggravating my allergies. The Roomba eliminates those pesty small particles. The battery life is excellent. It ran for 45 minutes (which is more than enough time for it to cover my 1000 sq ft apt twice, and it was still going when I returned it to its charger. Its actually fun to watch. It is prone to get stuck on electric cords, so I recommend that you raise your cords above floor level if possible. Some much more expensive robotic vaccums claim to map a room and plot a vacuming strategy. I don't think the Roomba does that. It seems to proceed randomly until it bumps into something, then it impressively reorients itself and keeps going, even in tight spaces. After a while, its randomness covers my entire apartment and leaves it much cleaner.

I have two measures for its effectivienss: 1) after using it twice, I cleaned its filter, which was easy to do and was full of dust and small particulate matter, so it is clearly picking up a lot; and 2) I walked around barefoot and didn't feel those irksome small particles. Also, if you are an allergy sufferer, like I am, this will help a lot because it picks up a lot of dust and pollen. It also simply improves the overall cleanliness of my apartment, which is worth a lot. I bought a refurbished unit on Amazon. There is no sign that it was refurbished. It cleans areas I don't usually clean, like under my bed and furniture. This is a big plus, because I often don't bother to move those items when I do vaccum, dust builds up there. So the Roomba goes places where I don't ordinarily go with my vaccum. There is no sign that it was refurbished. Now, instead of vacuming a coupe of times a year when things get bad, I will be able to run the Roomba several times a month, which will have all of the benefits I described above. It came in new packaging, and so far works perfectly. Would I do this transaction again, and recommend the Roomba to a friend? Absolutely.

Customer Review: Say goodbye to Vacuuming (almost)
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my second roomba. I purchased the Discovery model two years ago and after one quick return for eating a powercord I left lying around has given two years of faithful service. On seeing the new 560 model I was intrigued to see what it would be like and as I can retire 'Lucy 1' to the beach house for a well deserved rest I got 'Lucy 2'. If you have upgraded to this model you will notice that iRobot have not been sitting around doing nothing.

The 560 is big advance on the original models. The soft bumper is fun to watch, and also reasures as it now just gently touches the wall, the old discovery model tended to 'bang' around alot.

I love the scheduler built in and it works a treat, now I come home to a clean floor everyday (I have hardwood floor here in Tokyo). You do still have to make sure the floors are clear of junk that tangle, but this is not a bad thing.

The bigger capacity means it can go for a few days without cleaning, and the sealed system means all the dirt and dust is in one place. I've not had to clean the brushes yet as they still seem clean.

One thing that I've noticed is that when the roomba gets into a tight space the rotating brushes stop which means they aren't pulling in the dirt all the time. Also this model is alot more powerful and seems to get into places that the disovery didn't. (ie I found it in my shower area today as it had pushed open the door!

It fantastic at cleaning under things which we never tend to do with normal vacum (there is not a spec of dust under my bed or sofa).

Nothing is perfect and you still need to do abit of manual cleaning behind doors and in the corners, but this is a very minor problem given the huge amount it does get. And as it runs daily I'm sure its cleaner than a weekly regular vacuum. I loved the discovery so much I suggested my mum get one, she loves it as well!

Overall the 560 is a great first time buy and good upgrade if you can recycle your disovery. Oh and if you have hardwood floors the Scooba is fantasitic as well. I have both and never had cleaner floors!

Customer Review: This is a GREAT product!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have got to say that this is a great product!

I bought this unit about 1 month ago, and I absolutely love it!
I glanced at the directions, and set it to start up at 8 am every morning. I figured out where to place the virtual walls- (I have a large house, and reset the virtual walls each night , so Robbie takes a different path each day- alternating between 3 different paths) and let the robot go. It starts up and cleans while we're away. I come home sometimes at 1 pm and start it again to clean a limited space. I have used it 3 times in one day multiple times. It cleans about 2.5 hours on a full charge and takes about 4 hours to fully recharge. So, if we go out at night I let it clean again while we're away. Why I do it "while we're away" is that it is fairly loud. you can't talk on the phone in the same room or even hold a normal conversation. the noise is really no big deal. Our 10 month old cat seems to like it- she watches it while it cleans, and our 4 year old cat doesn't seem to mind it either- and he is very jumpy. I love coming home and seeing that the robot cleaned. We lost it 1 day, loked all over and eventually my son found it stuck under a low table. It doesn't always return to it's charging station, and so you may find it behind a door, or under low furniture, or dead in the middle of the room- but that's no problem- just take by hand back to it's charging station and hit "dock". I clean it out after every cleaning- no big deal- just empty the bin and take off the brushes and run the brush cleaning tool over it and pull off the animal hair. this is an incredibly built robot- with no faults so far. I highly recommend it to someone who wants light cleaniong w/o the hassle, but you still need to vacuum occasionally on your own; and dust, and mop. but I am still amazed by the amoiunt of dirt, dust, animal hair, etc. it gets out with every use! Buy it- you'll love it

I can't wait for more robots to be available to cut my lawn, trim the hedges, wash the car, and all the other menial things that we do-- I am definitely an "I, Robot" supporter!

Customer Review: WOW, It Really Works and Makes Life Easier
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had my Roomba 560 vacuum for a couple of weeks now. It was well packaged and came with a quick-start guide. I charged the vacuum over night as suggested to make sure it was fully charged. Once charged, I programmed it to vacuum the house at noon on every week day. All of the floors in my house are black granite, oak wood laminate, and ceramic tile. I have one Bombay cat so naturally I am going to have some short black hair on the floors along with some cat litter and the normal dust and grit that I track in on a daily basis.

This Roomba 560 really does a great job and is very thorough. Once can not help but be fascinated by Roomba's deliberate travels across the floors. It is really fun to watch. Since my cat is un-nerved by it, it makes it even that much more fun. It comes with two Lighthouses. I use one as a virtual wall to block it from going into the kitchen, and I use the other as a Lighthouse to divide a room. The Roomba 560 cleans one room for about 25 minutes before moving to the next room. The Roomba 560 can do my small house in one charge. When it is done, it does a few circle to orient itself and then locks onto the docking station where it goes and parks to charge itself for tomorrow. It has never failed to find the docking station.

Cleaning the Roomba is a snap. I clean it every day and it takes me all of about 5 minutes. The Roomba 560 was made to be taken apart. The brushes are easily removed and the filter is easily cleaned. I keep canned air around to blow our the filter and the back cartridge that contains the debris that it picks up. It is so simple! I read in some other reviews that the brushes break quickly so I bought extras. So far, none have broken.

I am really really pleased at how well it works. I love coming home to clean floors on a daily basis. The purchase of the Roomba560 feels like the first step into the world of the Jetsons.

No regrets here. If I had it to do all over again, I would still buy it!

Customer Review: New 560 is Just Amazing!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a single dad and a very busy teacher. My desire and ability to do housework is limited. So I decided that I would finally purchase a Roomba to help keep my house cleaner.

Well I just used my new Roomba 560 for the first time today. So far it has vacuumed the kitchen and an adjoining pantry, as well as the laundry room. I didn't have batteries on hand for the vertual wall/lighthouse units, so I blocked the doorways with heavy objects on hand. The little guy went right to work. It was truley facinating to watch it clean. Every time I was convinced that it would miss a little crumb, it would end up going over that spot and sucking it up.

It did grab a very thin cord to a phone charger, so I had to put it up. So I think that it will take a little time to "Rooma Ready" the house. Because I am a bit of a slob, I also tend to leave larger pieces of paper/junk on the floor. After a few minutes of watching it work, I knew that these would need to be picked up before setting it loose. The obvious thing is that less clutter in the room to be cleaned is better. But it sure did a very thorogh job in the areas that were cleaned.

Additonal Thoughts
I may end up buying 2 or 3 more docking units, so I can take the Roomba around the house without having to lug the docking unit with it. I will be very interested to see if the lighthouses work. When you empty it for the first time, do so over a garbage can. I made the mistake of pulling the dust bin out and stuff fell out all over the place on the floor I just cleaned. Finally, the brushes were easy to clean, just make sure you align the square nipple in the right receptical.

I've only had it for a day, but so far it does everything advertised. My co-worker has a 560 and she has used it 3-4 times a week for the last two months. It hasn't had a problem yet.

I highly recommend this product. But I will post again in a few weeks and update.
