Tools and Hardware Reviews of iRobot Roomba SilverCustomer Review: Fantastic product for those with tile floors Summary: 5 Stars
Nothing much else to be said. You would think this would only do an OK job but you'd be wrong. It can be run daily and keep your place as if you had a live-in maid sweeping your floors.
My boss has three in her house and my wife and I saw them and were amused. We thought they were cool but wouldn't work in our much smaller home, where furniture is a much higher percentage of the floorspace. Wrong. The thing manages to go around the legs of our chairs, it goes under couches, under the bed... it only requires minimal *prep-work* if we want it to truly get every nook and cranny, but with daily cleaning that's not even necessary more often than maybe once a month.
After we bought our own I told my boss I'm glad they're sold in stores... if they weren't I'd have to quit my job to go *evangelize* about this product <grin>.
All kidding aside... it has essentially eliminated one of the most tedious chores my wife and I (my wife mostly as she's a SAHM) had to do. Since it can be run daily without effort our place is now CLEANER than it was, and the satisfaction of leaving the house for fun with the kids while the *maid* is cleaning is undescribeable.
We'd gladly pay twice the price, but don't tell iRobot.
Too bad we weren't as lucky with Scooba :-(
Oh... we didn't go for the docking-station model because it would be way too tempting for the kids, plus we find it better to do the house in sections ... moving the docking station around would be little improvement over fetching roomba wherever it stops. Thankfully it hasn't stopped under the bed yet... though it surely will one of those days. Oh well.. free exercise :-)
Customer Review: much better than I expected! Summary: 5 Stars
I was very hesitant about this product after reading all the reviews, and I tried not to get my hopes up too much, but this thing is so cool!
HARDWOOD: I bought it exclusively for the hardwood, and it does a great job. No more little crumbs stuck to your feet when you walk around barefoot. (at least for an hour or two)
CARPET: Like I said, I bought it exclusively for hardwood, but couldn't resist turning it loose upstairs on the carpet. It cleaned the whole upstairs in 45 minutes, and you can tell from the little robot tracks that it covered the whole floor, squeezing everywhere it could. It actually looks like you vacuumed!
PET HAIR: Usually I say that doesn't apply to us. We have 2 yorkies and they shed very little, but I was honestly ashamed at the amount of hair it pulled out of the carpet the first time around.
BUMPS: It went over the transitional pieces from hardwood to tile, no problem.
GETTING STUCK: It has yet to get stuck anywhere. Even under the table with little room and a million chair legs, it works really hard to find its way out.
EMPTYING BIN: Yes, you probably need to dump the dirt after every go-round, but it's so easy! The tray pops right out, as does the filter which also needs to be cleaned, and then pops right back in. Not to mention the bin is pretty big.
So, yeah, you need to pick your stuff up out of the floor before you run it, but do you normally vacuum around your kids' toys? I personally pick up the floor before I vacuum anyway, so what's the big deal? Oh, and it hasn't even come close to scuffing up the baseboards.
Couldn't ask for much more.
Customer Review: Multitasking to a new level Summary: 5 Stars
I can vacuum while grocery shopping! I can vacuum while gardening! I can vacuum while at work!
Got this model for Christmas a couple of years ago. We spent a lot of time the first few weeks watching it run around in it's zigzag pattern - it's rather hypnotic. Just like everyone will tell you, this thing is really powerful but it doesn't do corners. It will suck up cords, so you have to tuck those away. Sometimes it gets hung up on the corner of a rug. It does a great job transitioning from hardwood to carpet to tile and does an amazing job weaving underneath the dining room table with chairs in place. And it will sense stairs, you don't have to block them off or anything.
We got two dogs a year later, and this little Roomba got used every other day. The dogs aren't too fond of it, but don't seem to mind as long as it's not headed their direction. A couple of months ago, got a Scooba and a newer model of Roomba, relegating this model to the basement (concrete floor). I lost the screw that holds the brushes on, which makes it less effective, but it still does a fantastic job of running around the basement picking up dust, hairballs, tacks, and bits of dog food.
Get one, it's worth every dollar you pay for it!!
Customer Review: Good enough Summary: 5 Stars
Bought for clean hardwood floor. It is good enough and surpassed my expectation, just keep in mind: it is not human-being, does not expect its inteligence of a human, it is already smart enough to swipe around the house ,no complain at all. Some people complains about the qualuty, but image this small machine did a heavy work, if runs for year, only cost $10/per month, do not be too greedy. And it is not used to clean large objects, clean unnoticable dust and dirty is its goal. Why expect a cat could catch a wolf, that does not make sense, right place, right usage, this is the key point.

After almost two years usage, the battery is still good. Works like new, great quality, best buy for me.
Customer Review: Awesome !!! Summary: 5 Stars
I have two shedding dogs, 4 parakeets, a hamster, an 8 year old girl, and a very bussy life. I get up, make my coffe and turn my robot on. I leave it working in the kitchen while i get me and my daughter ready, I have a small kitchen. By the time we come down, is done. Leave it in the living room while I take my Daughter to the bus stop. By the time I come back is done with the living room. Some days i leave it cleaning the bedrooms until the battery dies. Yes, it takes less time if I sweep the floors, but if you schedule it right is well worth it. I absolutly love it. It even has a neckname. hehe !!! What you should know is that It needs to be clean often so the motor stays powerfull.
