Description of iTouchless 13 Gallon Square Stainless Steel extra-Wide Opening Touchless Trash Can MX
This MX Model 13 Gallon Touchless Trashcan equips with enhanced sensor functionality and a wide opening for larger debris. As your hand or debris enter the zone 6 inches from the infrared sensor on top of the trash can, the lid will automatically open. The lid will remain open if debris or hand is within the 6 inches range of the infrared sensor. 3 seconds after your hand moves away from the lid, it closes automatically. At the top front of the lid there are open and close buttons for manual operation, and there is a on/off power switch at the back of the trash can. This MX Model has a wide opening (11.75? diagonal) lid for larger debris, redesigned stronger lid hinge mechanism, air-escape holes for effortless trash bag removal, and carry handle for easy mobility. Fits any regular 13 or 18 gallon trash bag. Customer Review: Fun and practical trash can

I bought the iTouchless 13 Gallon Square Stainless Steel trash can about two years ago. I wasn't a fan of lidless trash cans because they look gross (although you can put them under the sink to hide them). Trash cans with manually operated lids often get debris and goop on the lid. Foot operated trash cans are a good solution, as long as they consistently work.
That being said, mine has consistently worked for two years without changing batteries. Yes occasionally there can be a slight delay of less than a second before the lid opens. Also, the lid can sometimes close when shoveling a lot of trash into the can, but then you can use the "open" button to keep it open (which means it isn't "touchless" at that point).
However, I give it 5 stars because not only is mine consistent with operation, it is also fun. The lid gives you a salute every time you throw something out. Also, it can amuse visitors (or yourself) who happen to walk by it and trigger it opening. (I have since moved it to a more inconspicuous location).
I can sometimes buy gadgets and some work, some don't, and some are more enjoyable than expected. This is just a trash can and I am probably unique about being so happy with it. You probably won't enjoy it as much as I do.
