Tools and Hardware Reviews of iTouchless Fully Automatic Stainless Steel Touchless Trashcan NXCustomer Review: Problem with Ring Summary: 2 Stars
This is could be a nice product if the ring that holds the trash bag is sturdy. Ring is actually an open circle metal that expands. It really doesn't hold the trash bag well. A "ring" of thin metal wire (as thin as the wire on one's cellphone charger). I think the "ring" placed on one's finger is even thicker!
Problem:
1st: Bag doesn't have enough space to enclose the ring.
2nd: Ring slips out from the space provided for the ring inside the can.
If bottom of trash is already heavy or one pushes trash hard, example, trying to fit the trash inside the can or pushing stuff inside for the extra space, it falls off so when the time for you to pull the trash bag out for replacement a lot of your trash ends up not inside the bag itself. Really messy! You also end up cleaning the inside of the can for any mess or residue that came in contact with the can. Not a pleasant job to do and a pleasant sight to see. Added work. They should have placed a thick ring, like the square iTouchless can or NZ's trash cans. This may be made of plastic but at least the bag is secured and doesn't fall off.
Customer Review: Touchless nice, ring needs work Summary: 2 Stars
I bought the Original Touchless Stainless Steel Trashcan (13 gallon), and it was wonderful. iTouchless Stainless-Steel Hands-Free 13-Gallon Infrared Automatic Trash Can The touchless feature is great, and the plastic ring that holds the bag in place worked fabulously. The shape and finish were also nice.
So, when I decided I needed a smaller one for recyclables (13 gallons is too heavy for lots of glass and paper), I wanted another iTouchless, and decided on the "newer" version, and purchased the 8 gallon NX version.
However, the newer version is not as nice. The sensor may be better, but the circular base takes up quite a bit more space, and the wire ring used to hold the bag in place doesn't work nearly as well.
So, if you are going to get a touchless trash can, go with the original one. You can tell the difference because the original has more of a rectangular footprint.
Customer Review: lid broke off after 4 months of normal use Summary: 2 Stars
I liked this product at the beginning but after only four months of normal use, the lid broke off its hinge and does not close anymore. Considering the high cost of this trash can, the lid should not be so flimsy. I contacted the company and got a prompt reply with a link to replacement items: the replacement lid costs $39.95.

Never buy this product. You'll regret it., November 23, 2009
By Olivia (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
I bought this automatic trash can because I thought it would be more sanitary since I would not need to touch the lid. However, as other reviewers wrote, it's so badly designed, and is full of problems.
I bough this two months ago and am planning to get a step-on trash bin this weekend and "trash" this piece of garbage. If you want to know more, here are the main problems I had with this product.
Problem #1: Extremely bad design.
You can't get the trash out smoothly, and almost all the time, the trash bag gets ripped, so you end up leaning the trash can, yourself and kitchen floor.
Problem #2: Frequent battery change.
The trash can itself is not cheap, but you have to keep buying 4 D-size batteries every 2-3 months. It adds up. Also it's really hard to take off the panel to change the battery. I always end up asking my husband to do it after so much struggles trying to open the panel.
Problem #3: Too sensitive sensor.
The sensor is so sensitive and it opens up everytime you pass by and it takes 4 seconds to close it. It means the odor of the trash comes out and fills up your kitchen.
Problem #4: Bad for children.
The height is about the same height with my 1-year-old and he is amuzed by this trash can. He can open it so easily, so he tried to put things into the trash can. Also you don't want your 1-year-old to be exposed to the smell and possibly touch the trash inside.
Hope this helps. I decided to write a review because I feel tricked by good reviews for this product. I read them prior to purchasing this product and feel betrayed by them. I regret that I bought this so much.
Customer Review: it works okay for about 7 months and dies Summary: 1 Stars
So I read a lot of the other reviews saying this thing breaks and whatnot and I said, whatever they did something wrong, but seriously. This thing does stop working properly. For me its not the motor but the sensor, sometimes itll just stay up. and even if you dry the sensor and remove all possibly flecks of debris it stays up. Now oddly enough, it wont open. No matter what. I hear the motor move but the lid stays shut. wish it had a manual option for when the cool electronic breaks. Will NOT be buying again. The sensor was flaky anyways. would sometimes stay in a partially open position and sometimes wouldnt open at all.
Update: Wanted me to pay $20 shipping there and back to fix the plastic lid piece that has broken. thats half the price of a new trashcan. And if they deemed it not their fault they reserved the right to not fix it and return it to me. What a terrible RMA policy. DO NOT BUY
