I ordered this for a unique reason: my husband was sick of our pedal trash can lid hitting the wall and marking up the paint. We have an older house, so there isn't a great spot for a trash can. So, I ordered this so he'd stop griping about the lid hitting the wall and him having to repaint the wall every 3 months.
I was concerned b/c of all the "Negative Nancy" reviews I've read. Here are my rebuttals:
1. If there was a problem with the trash can tearing the bag, they've fixed it.
2. Our trash bags are a little small for it, but there's a great ring that hold them into place. Trash bags are generic, they are going to be a little big or small. I didn't expect a custom fit for a trash bag, so it doesn't bother me.
3. Yes, it makes a noise when you open it. My dog and toddler are fasicinated by the noise, which is funny to me. If it bothers you for the 2 seconds opening and closing it, you've got other issues.
It works great, only had it a week so I don't know about the battery life. But, if it becomes an issue, maybe I'll get rechargable "D" batteries. I don't have the ability to use the charger b/c I don't have an outlet close, so I can't comment on it.

I searched to find this product. I have a previously purchased one,from Tuesday Morning. After a party, helpful guests removed the bag of trash, ignorant of the fact that there was a very significant hoop inside, which allows the top edges of the bag to be folded in over the hoop so the outside appearance is attractive; no garbage bag edges hanging out as in other containers.
I was so disturbed by this loss, that now it is essential to have the bag hanging out from under the top door mechanism, that I decided to find a new one. Thanks to GOOGLE, I located it.
I have seen others where the entire top lifts up or out, but the cover on the iTouchless has a se1uential roll top, like that of an old roll top desk, which makes the opening totally free and out of the way to all deposit of trash. I LOVE IT! Patrick Matthews, Pinecrest, Florida

I've never owned one with pivot lid so cannot compare, but this is so much nicer than step can. If the lid seems to be moving slowly make sure you're using high quality batteries, the off brand batteries I used at first caused lid to be sluggish. You can use regualar 13 gallon trash bags with this can, (opening of bag is folded around ring at top of can)they just won't reach the bottom. My Mother told me never to touch myself when I'm alone and if you buy this garbage can you don't have to touch it either even if it begs you to touch it you don't have to and that's a good thing according to my Mother.
But please consider that even garbage cans need your love and someday you should own a garbage can you can touch.

i've had this trash can for 2 weeks now. Battery operated. No problems so far. it's doing what it's supposed to do. I looks very sleek, attention catcher and it matched my kitchen appliances. great addition. functional and sanitizing.
