The simplehuman activated carbon filter naturally absorbs odors. After extended use, the filter's odor absorbing ability can be recharged by placing it in direct sunlight. To use, simply peel off the double-sided adhesive tape on the back of the filter and attach to a clean surface area where there are odors, such as the underside of your trash can's lid or inside a cabinet door. I like these filters because their flat shape and adhesive pad make them versatile for uses around the house. I slid one behind my second-hand computer to staunch the smoky smell it emits (I bought it from a heavy smoker). I use another one in the refrigerator, where it works as well as baking soda, takes up less space, and will probably be effective much longer. You can stick them inside your garbage cans (their intended purpose), on the wall near your cat's litter box, near your laundry hamper, and in other nooks and crannies around the house.
They work well to remove smells, but don't last forever (I wouldn't bother trying to recharge them in the sun; it takes very high heat to recharge activated charcoal) and don't work miracles, either.
