First off, the this can is very attractive. The brown is a nice rich brown and goes well with my cupboards. By pushing the silver lever in on the lid, the lid locks to the can so whatever you want to stay out of the can, ie dog or child, cannot reach the contents. It works. See picture. We left and the dog dragged the can into the living room, tore out all the plastic that was showing around the rim and then chewed on the corner. Dog could not get it open after probably a few hours of desperation. The only thing I cannot get used to is the lid is so slow to close vs slamming shut. Because of having dogs, I stand there and wait for it to make sure it closes or I push it down, which may be hard on the mechanism.
